Has Covid gone?

Decided to be a tourist today. Check out the new Elizabeth line to Woolwich Arsenal, a little wander around and Riverbus back. Didnt realise that it only goes as far as Paddington so had to get tube to Oxford Circus, then to Bond St and DLR on to Woolwich. Trains were absolutely packed like sardines. No one wearing masks except little ol me. Same with Riverbus. In a sense it was nice to see London happening, but if I havent copped Covid today, I never will.

No, definitely not. The selfishness of the maskless beggars belief. Not only are they not immune, they may be asymptomatic and even super spreaders. Not al of us get sick pay and three million of us were excluded from government help during lockdown. Ideal conditions for the mutation of the virus so we can probably look forward to another variant in the autumn.

It has clearly reduced a lot thank goodness so life is back to normal for business which was absolutely critical. Fantastic to see restaurants and bars full again. If a new deadly variant returns then we will have to deal with it then, let’s be positive and pray it doesn’t. The damage covid has had around the world is astonishing.

Brian, that may be so. I dont know. But I didnt mind wearing one. It kept my face warm in winter, kept out a lot of nasty niffs, and I havent had Covid. Will still wear one in crowded spaces and on bike rides

The number of deaths rose last week. Don't worry about wearing a mask, I still wear one. I was in a chemists buying another two boxes and remarked that they were probably not selling many. The lady said sales were still strong!

Not being the expert that so many others appear to be, I just thought 'why not?' It keeps nasty sweaty niffs out when travelling on crowded trains etc. It might filter some noxious stuff while cycling. I havent had a cold or cough for as long as I can remember, and if I'm kidding myself, so what.

Strange that so many pharmacy staff no longer wear masks. They are surely on the front line for catching Covid and  all sorts of nasty diseases.

Her indoors used to collect a box of tests from the local NHS place in the Market Square every time we passed (at one time they were almost forcing them on passersby).As a result we have a whole bookshelf of the things.  The best before date is July 2023.  They should last until then.By then we will all be piles of radioactive dust.

It does seem to have gone very quiet,  but I still wear my mask.  People do tend to look at you in a strange way when you're the only one wearing one.

Can't think why Janet. The WHO said that; "Currently there is no evidence that wearing a mask by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can protect them from infection with respiratory viruses, including Covid-19". They also said that: "There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit". Professor Chris Whitty said that wearing face masks would do little to combat the outbreak, and that wearing a mask had almost no effect on reducing the risk of contracting the illness". It all appears to have been driven from a political rather than a medical standpoint. Unless of course our Forum medical experts, and one or two more know better?

They said that at the beginning of the pandemic because they knew that what PPE there was available (since pandemic prevention preparation had been discontinued as a cost cutting measure) needed to be reserved for those working in the front line.  Pictures and info being received from overseas as the virus moved nearer showed the extent that those countries were protecting their medical staff.

I don't understand why you would wear one when walking or cycling down the street.Could the mask have become a fashion accessory? The woman I 'caught' in M&S stealing over £120.00 worth of meat was no doubt wearing hers, along with the beanie, as a cover up.

Pollution / particulates ?  We are told continuously how polluted England is compared to Wales and Scotland. Our mayor should make it compulsory to wear masks in London to take some pressure off the NHS. Apparently 20 people a year die prematurely in Chiswick due to pollution!

Masks are definitely life savers! Hopefully medical facilities will make them mandatory forever! They definitely help to prevent the spread of germs.

Masks prevent others illness such as colds and flu so will always wear amask when out and believe it stops the spread of Covid to the frail/elderly.
