Amber Heard

I’ve been loosely following the court case. Just listening to a psychiatrist diagnose Amber Heard with a Baseline Personality Disorder . This seems to confirm that she has multiple issues which would result in her doing all the things she’s accused of. I’m interested to understand l, if they allow this as evidence, why they couldn’t have used this diagnosis . Rather than hours upon hours of testimony.

I don't think so Loraine and, as you know I'm sure, there are a number of different personality disorders (including borderline). It seems that the psychologist or reporting is being non-specific. From the bit I understand of such things, though, I would assume from what I've seen and heard that the diagnosis would be borderline.

It pains me to say the woman who testified is a psychologist but she is not board certified.

The 'baseline' in this context is surely referring to the baseline to which one tends to revert and is the measure by which any change, for better or worse, is assessed. If that's correct, then every personality type or disorder has a baseline.

I’ve looked her up. She seems qualified.  I don’t know what board qualified means.  Why would they let her testify if she’s not considered an “expert witness”?

There is no such thing as Baseline personality disorder.  Borderline personality disorder is one of the most devastating conditions in all mental health diagnosis.  I wondered many times when they had the case against the Sun here if she had been diagnosed. It is very difficult to live with someone with BPD. Their behaviour can change like lightening from joy to great and genuine despair.  Board certification is necessary in the US to practice medicine but a Psychologist does not have a medical degree so does not need certification it is the same here. BPD is a devastating diagnosis as there is no known treatment that leads to a cure.  There are many people in the arts with BPD who are not recognised as their behaviour is seen as being critical for actors.The sporadic working life suits them better than the 9 to 5 weekly job as they do not build up bad relationships and end up sacked over and over again.I know a woman who has worked temping all her working life and has never had problems at work.

Caroline, I have confirmed that the word  'baseline' was just a typo/mistake on my part.I have huge sympathy for sufferers of mental health conditions and some understanding.  We must never forget those on the other end of it though.

I had to laugh when I heard the diagnoses of "BPD and HPD" - variously Borderline Personality Disorder and Histrionic Personality Disorder.When I was training, we referred to these as "I Don't Like You" and "I Don't Like You And You Irritate Me". While they may describe behaviours, as diagnoses, they are all but useless as they are so non-specific inter definition, and provide  given no insight whatsoever to the question of cause, let alone remedy, as to be all but useless.But hey, DSM, from which they are derived, was never intended as a manual for treatment - just as a list of codes against which you can bill your patient's insurance company.

Are they trying to disprove the wife beater claims , by highlighting her issues. Her legal team allowed the testimony, and presumably the meeting with Ms Curry.

i have not been interested in this, but if beaten don't you need medical proof.
