Duty free concession

When did this slip through, last time I went to FRANCE I could bring back wine,, take advantage of the duty free allowance and pay duty on any bottles above the allowance,now we are allowed 18 litres of wine, if you have any more than that you lose the allowance and have to pay duty on all of it !Seems pretty mean and petty to me !

The answer's simple: we're no longer in the EU single market. But 18 litres seems to me quite a generous duty-free allowance for domestic consumption.

"But 18 litres seems to me quite a generous duty-free allowance for domestic consumption."It's only 2 months' supply for a couple keeping within the recommended alcohol consumption levels.Before we left the EU, I used to visit the independent winemakers' fair in Paris every November and bring back 75 litres.

Duty free did slip through the net, I travelled internationally last year and purchased something in terminal 5 thinking it  would be duty free only to be told it no longer exists, there is no duty free shopping.

Generous on the part of the Treasury. It's about £50 forgone on alcohol duty.

There was duty-free shopping at Terminal 3 earlier this month.

The new duty free arrangements were part of the withdrawal agreement. and are now in place. They were not slipped in.

The point being that you have an allowance of 24 bottles but if you have 25 bottles you lose the allowance and have to pay the duty on all of them. Logic would suggest that you would only have to pay duty on the excess over the allowance. This is what it used to be before the Common market and I do not think Brexit has anything remotely to do with it, it also has nothing to do with what some consider an adequate amount.

I wasn’t buying booze in terminal 5 go to luxury boutique or jewellery no duty free 🥺🥺🥺🤔🤔 I used to love this naughty moment 😂😂😂

Robert Fish, thanks for that pointer, . It is a bit muddled on the question of duty over and above the allowance, two sections dealing with personal allowance do not quite marry up.
