The high tide in the early hours of the 19th was one of the highest this year, which would be followed by a very low Low Tide. In addition, the flow at Kingston is running at about 37% of its annual average rate owing to little recent rain, which would help to lower the river level.And the Thames Barrier was also closed on the 19th from 09.30 to 12.30, a routine monthly test closure which would have blocked the incoming tide for a few hours, and contributed to the low level.
