Chertsey Road (not the Great Chertsey Road)

I discovered the other day that an entire street running north from Wellesley Road, up to Surrey Crescent, between Clarence Road and Stonehill Road has disappeared from the map: it was called Chertsey Road and had about 20 terraced houses on it.  Much of the site now seems to be occupied by Melody Court.  I shall be looking into local historical records to see if I can find out why and when it was demolished (not before 1964 as the electoral register compiled in October that year shows it fully occupied, so it was not, by contrast with Surrey Crescent, a direct result of the creation of the Chiswick Roundabout of the flyover).  Do any longer-term residents of Chiswick know more?

The Kellys Street directory for 1938 indeed shows Chertsey Road as lying between 6 Surrey Crescent and 47a Wellesley Road.. but I don't know when it was demolished to make way for Melody Court.You say that the 20 houses in Chertsey Road.still existed in 1964.The extention of the "Cromwell Road Extention",including Ellesmere Road and Cedars Road happened in about 1958 when the Flyover and approach to the flyover were constructed...from the Wellseley Road junction. The bridge over the railway must have been built prewar in anticipation. The Chiswick Flyover was opened by Jayne Mansfieldin 1959.In brief..I don't know when Chertsey zRoad

Assuming (undated) Geographer's A to Z's were kept up to dateChertsey Rd post-dated the introduction of decimal currecy in 1971, as it still featured in an edition of the A to z with a 50p cover price.michael adams

Melody Court was built in 1983 so perhaps it was demolished just before that?

Thanks.  We came here in 1993 and Melody Court and the other buildings in the same style, including Forbes House, were well established then.  Besides Chertsey Road being completely obliterated, Stonehill Road, which had been a similar street of terraced houses running up to the SE corner of Surrey Crescent, has also lost all those houses, but that may well have been a consequence of the construction of the flyover, at least at the northern end.  I will carry on researching.
