Homes for Ukraine Scheme - local sponsors

Is anyone here hosting a Ukrainian?I’d love to connect with other local people who are or who are thinking about hosting a Ukrainian under the Homes for Ukraine scheme. I’ve searched this forum and can’t find any chats about it currently. Would be great to connect/ create a W4 community.Also, if anyone would like to chat through the process, I’m here toshare my experience so far of finding someone/ filling in visa applications etc. If anyone needs help with this, just get in touch! Thanks Jim, my partner Mat has spoken to Grove Park Residents Association and a local web designer - they’ve set up www.chiswick4ukraine.org.uk which will be updated with info about any local initiatives we find/ connect with. Please do pass this on to anyone you think would be interested :)

As you might have seen on another thread, I'm trying to help two Ukrainian teenagers who arrived from Kyiv last week. They are interested in finding a sponsor. If anyone might be able to sponsor them, please get in touch and I can explain. You would be able to meet them face to face (they are currently staying in Hayes).Their situation is complicated (no surprise there) and I can't explain everything on the forum.Steve(stephen.jewson@gmail.com)

The response to Ukrainian refugees  from the general public in the UK has been heartening even though the visa requirements demanded by the government are indicative of very unwelcoming country. Why is the response to Syrian refugees  different?

This thread is mad, being a remainer I was very happy to have open borders, I believe we benefitted from that, clearly the brexit vote won on controlling our borders, so don’t start complaining now it makes no sense. Security is important but I would love to still be in the EU and have open borders then we wouldn’t have this situation. Folks you can’t have it both ways….

You may find the website for Refugees at Home the charity of which Sara Nathan mentioned above and who sometimes posts on this site is a co-founder of interest.

I remember Sara writing that Refugees At Home was very busy as they had had a lot of offers/enquiries at the start of the Ukraine crisis.

We have two Ukranian guests who arrived on Sunday a mother and 8 year old daughter - they are slowly settling in but had a horrid 4 day journey and sadly are from the Bucha area that has been decimated.  Would like to hook up with other families who have taken them in and might want to make local friends
