What a shame the Chiswick Playhouse seems to be closing. Lets hope a "phoenix arises from the ashes".

Indeed. The Chiswick Playhouse will be missed by many.
As Greene King seems to be advertising the lease as a theatre it doesn't seem to be intending to close the venue and develop into flats which has been tried before without success.The obvious explanation for what has happened is that the management company has got into difficulty. As they were able to keep the theatre running through lockdown with little or no support from the Arts Council and the council it is only the timing of this that is surprising.

It looks like Greene King have called in the lease due to non-payment of rent which is ridiculous given the current circumstances. They should let the theatre stay there for free as the pubs takings must be significantly boosted by people coming to performances. If they are planning flats then this needs to be resisted.

I was one of the founder members of the theatre and produced, performed and reviewed there. It would be a great pity if it were to be lost after surviving for so long.
