Who/What can stop Putin's murderous war on Ukraine  ?

I've just watched Fergal Keane's (BBC news) film on the war in Ukraine - tragic yet inspirational because of the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian people.Who or what can stop Putin, is there any hope ?

Massive ordinary Russian people joining forces and standing up against him in violent protests and riots in all major cities including Russia.  Also with the hope that one of them will assassinate Putin.  He deserves to die for his barbaric cruelty.
