My understanding, from being involved in a couple of procurements on this, is that it isn't legal to create a trip hazard across the pavement to charge an EV.As many have said previously, the obvious solution is to create a network of EVCP's - a number of boroughs have/are doing this already (e.g. Lambeth & Hackney amongst others). The network needs to be a blend of slow (lamp post), rapid & ultra-rapid charge points to work effectively - recognising that not everyone has 8 hours available to fully charge an EV, which to be fair, the majority of Council's recognise.The other less well understood issue with EVCP's is that we can't just put them on every, or every other lamppost, as the underlying mains wiring isn't suitable for that - I've read documentation suggesting that in the borough for which I work, up to 40% of lampposts aren't suitable owing to infrastructure issues, which causes problems when trying to create a comprehensive network.Looks like we're all going to have to get used to fairly continuous roadworks over the next few years as the infrastructure is upgraded...BTW that charge mat sounds like a massive version of wireless phone charging tbh...
