Cllr Hanif Khan deselected

From “Brentford TV” -CLLR HANIF KHAN IS DESELECTED AS LABOUR WARDS CHOOSE CANDIDATES FOR BOROUGH ELECTIONS. The driving force behind the Borough's new traffic schemes fails to win in two wards – first in Hounslow West, then in Hanworth Park (which he currently represents). He is still able to put himself forward in other wards but one observer said: "His chances of being a candidate are now looking pretty slim."

Judging by the item currently on the front page this is more significant than the defenestration of a single councillor.It can probably be assumed that whoever was in charge of Hounslow Council would have been quite happy to accept government money for Streetspace measures that were largely implemented in wards that didn't vote for them.I know Steve Curran isn't necessarily the most popular in these parts but you have to feel for a man who guided the borough through one of the most challenging times ever for local government, ran a council that was judged the best in the country, probably increased the size of his party's majority at the forthcoming election and then immediately afterwards gets the boot.
