Chloe

Did anyone watch this on BBC1? Having stuck with it for all six episodes I have to say I am none the wiser. Can anyone shed any light on what it was all about? The nearest guess I came up with is domestic violence????

I haven't got a clue, Vanessa, as to what it was all about. Mind you, I did find myself nodding off and only came fully aware when Livia appeared in the caravan, and left Becky/Sasha gazing out wistfully at the sea. I found the whole series very confusing and, quite frankly, far too convoluted for my addled brain. I shall ask my work colleague tomorrow who has been watching as to what the hell was going on! Disappointed with persevering. Would you like me to enlighten you when informed as to what it was all about?

Yes, I think domestic violence and how people are so easily distracted from confronting this even when it happens in plain sight is what this series was about.  Having said that I must confess to experiencing a lot of confusion about what was happening for much of the time.  But I think Erin Doherty was fabulous as Becky/Sasha in the lead role.  I think the way she portrayed the hoodwinking of Chloe’s circle made it very watchable.

I found it riveting and the acting was brilliant.  I thought the point they were trying to make is that there are two sides to every story and also that domestic violence can be difficult both to identify and then to prove. Very gripping, almost as much as It's a Sin but not quite.  Some very high quality drama around, but sadly not enough, too many repeats but maybe because of Covid.

Some of it was to do with the disconnect between what is portrayed on social media and reality.I found it confusing, thought provoking and ultimately something that I’ll revisit. And I couldn’t wait to see the next episode after finishing the previous one.

I'm with you, Vanessa: found it interesting but mystifying (though for me this is a common reaction to contemporary TV dramas. I'm happy to accept it may be to do with my age).

'The Teacher' which was on Channel 5 last week was pretty good, an indentifiable beginning, middle and end. I sometimes think some writers try to be too clever and engineer convoluted plots and then lose the thread themselves, the sound and lots of scenes being in the dark didn't help Chloe either.

I think it was Jean-Luc Godard who said that a film should have a beginning, a middle and an end - but not necessarily in that order.

Alastair: Which explains why is didn't matter if you went to watch one of Godard's films arriving halfway through and then sat to watch when the beginning came round again ~ Ha Ha :-)

Pleased to read that I was not alone in being nonplussed with this six part series. I persevered with it thinking its denouement would reveal all.It didn't.
