Manager of Packhorse & Talbot pub stabbed

The General Manager of the Packhorse and Talbot pub in Chiswick High Rd was stabbed after a fight broke out in the pub on Saturday night.The fight happened while punters were watching boxing in the pub. Eye witnesses say a group of seven white, Irish men had been drinking since about 5pm and the fight happened at about 11.30pm.The manager was stabbed four times, “nearly fatally”. He was stabbed in the neck, the head, the arm and the hand while he was outside phoning an ambulance for someone else who had been injured.Police are looking for two Irish brothers who may have been parked near the Metro bank at around 6pm on Saturday.

This is absolutely shocking.  I believe they are looking for anyone with CCTV or video footage of the incident to share it with the police.

Very shocked about the violence and I hope he makes a full recovery. The boxing fans are not your average happy Rugby type! I know it brings in the money but it also brings risks with these sort of people.

Where does the suggestion come from that the people responsible were Irish? The police make no mention of this in the report on the front page.

There is no source for the information given but it looks like similar that has appeared on Facebook. The article on the front page of this site does appear to be based on contact with the police and they make no mention of the perpetrators' ethnicity. Even if it is correct, issues of identification may become part of any prosecution so the police may have deliberately avoided giving more details so it is probably best not to repeat unconfirmed reports.

I'm not sure why Messers Paul  Corcoran and Sean Kennedy are so defensive about the perpetrators being described as Irish.There are English, Scots,British black guys,eastern Europeans when in drunken packs  can all be thugs and bullies .I know that pub and I accept what has been said has happened,happened.That is no slur on the Irish,many of whom I count as good friends and acquaintances.They've very nice barstaff and they must be massively traumatized by what they witnessed

'I'm not sure why Messers Paul  Corcoran and Sean Kennedy are so defensive about the perpetrators being described as Irish'Impressed as we all are that some of your best friends are Irish you know little about your own country's history.In fact the objection appears to be that information about the investigation may have been put into the public domain before the police would have wanted therefore possibly complicating the prosecution of people who deserve to feel the full force of the law regardless of ethnicity.

I'm with Ben on this.I'm not sure how we should be mustering sympathy for Messrs. Corcoran and Kennedy when the manager of a local business has been stabbed. Neither of these men said anything about the victim, rather it was a "poor me, why are people picking on us" sort of response. As if that was the bigger offense. A man was stabbed while doing his job in Chiswick. Focus on everything related to that fact.The Chiswick Calendar mentioned the perpetrators were Irish. I doubt they would share this without it being released accordingly. For whatever reason, The Forum chose not to include that information. Why that would be offensive is anyone's guess.

I'm Irish and I wasn't in the least bit put out at the reference to the alleged suspects' nationality when I read the OP.The important thing is that the poor barman gets well again and the police find the perpetrators.

No one has taken offence or asked for sympathy.I raised the point because these details did not appear in the  news item on this site in which the police have officially commented. They appear to have originated from posts that have been made about this on social media.My concern here is that the people responsible are duly punished for what they did and the man attacked gets justice. Many prosecutions in this country have collapsed because inaccurate speculative comments about a crime have appeared on the internet.

According to the Chiswick Calendar:"Police are looking for two Irish brothers who may have been parked near the Metro bank at around 6pm on Saturday."Either the CC made all that up, or the police told them this.Considering the detail included, my money is on the latter.Or would that be "compromising" too?

Some people may have an arse about face way of looking at things imo..The more information provided about people being sought to help the police with enquiries the better to find them, surely?

This makes me think of two sides of the same coin.How many times have people said something along the lines of "the guy was black" and yet nobody flinched?It also reminds me, if I'm not mistaken, where it was outlawed to use such a descriptor when filing a claim with Met Police. To Keith's point, if one is not able to describe the perpetrator, what chance in hell is there of ever catching them?

The Chiswick Calendar don't seem to have spoken directly to the police but taken the information from a post on social media. The article on this site seems based on information has been released officially and includes much less detail. The police can specify the ethnicity of a suspect if they wish, to suggest they can't is nonsense. If the information about the identity of the suspects in this case was likely to compromise the investigation the police probably would have asked for it to be removed by now but people should still bear in mind that sharing details online about a crime that they are not 100% sure are accurate may help criminals avoid justice.
