South Western Railway

Great to see a full service on London Underground today yet a pathetic two trains an hour from South Western Railways. Once again blaming the virus for their abysmal reduced service. From four trains an hour down to three trains an hour during Jan & Feb down to two an hour from today. What is the local MP doing about this? What about the Transport Secretary? Getting people back to work is hard enough without this.SWR tweet this morning quotes: "we cannot confirm when additional trains will run in the Hounslow loop area" Interesting as they seem to be able to predict that all their staff will be off with Covid for the forseeable.

My 6.53 train from Twickenham has been cut to just eight carriages for the last few weeks and this morning was just fourI wonder who at the depot decides ah lets cut the amount of carriages on certain routes despite most passengers still wanting some space

On the plus side, SWR are now back to running four trains an hour in the morning on the Hounslow Loop. On the minus side, at least some of the trains are running with only half the normal number of carriages. This may be connected with the school holidays but it still makes for a packed train. I asked the guard why he had only half a train and he had no idea.

I once went on a date with the MD of South Western Railways (Claire Mann) although, strangely enough, her name was Claire Brown at that time. My claim to fame! But you guessed it, we never dated again, and she went on to live happily ever after..

"Once again blaming the virus for their abysmal reduced service."It IS the virus which has reduced staffing levels in every sector. Trains, planes, hospitals, police, hospitality  etc. Hence this is all 100% the fault of the Government for cancelling  mask rules and social distancing whilst the pandemic is at its highest infection rates ever. We should be following the lead of Shanghai!!

There are enormous numbers of people with Covid right now - and if the children have Covid you can't just put them into a school holiday programme.  I I remember see Caroline Noakes MP (a Conservative BTW) questioning the PM early in the pandemic about childcare for parents who wanted to work or who were Essential Workers - because if the children are sick the parents can't just get up and leave them and grandparents being more vulnerable who often step in were less likely to be doing so.Many people are not working in the same way thst they were and may not do so.  They  have found a better work:life balance.  Train fares have changed as a consequence.
