Traffic lights were created for motorists. Cars have very poor visibility around them, travel at high speeds, and are highly likely to kill pedestrians in collisions. Since there are so few proper protected cycle lanes, cyclists have to use the car lanes, and are expected to obey the lights along with cars. In reality though, there's very little danger when a cycle turns left on red (this is allowed in many countries), slows and rolls over a red on an empty pedestrian crossing etc.I get that car drivers are frustrated to see cyclists getting to their destinations, whilst cars are stuck in traffic, and I get that some cyclists are nutters and endanger pedestrians. But all this pearl-clutching about cyclists running reds? Mostly it's about making cycling as inconvenient as driving, just to make drivists feel better.
