Nora, you must not have been watching the news for quite a while now.It was a Tory manifesto pledge at the last election which,coupled with a lame dog Labour leader, contributed to many red wall seats changing hands for the first time since, well, forever.It's been a long time waiting for not very much, as far as I can see, but I live in the cossetted south east and can only hope there is some real benefit to the long neglected and beleagured provincial communities.It's a big ask though, given the sparse details of this.

It's just a camouflage name for pork barrel politics. The distribution is determned by political, rather than economic, needs.

Spot on Robert - Sajid Javid's constituency being one of them I understand. This nonsense also overlooks the many deprived areas in London and the South, plus it isn't 'new' money. Suggest Janice watches 'The Decade the Rich Won' on i player - but then she'll probably think it's all lovely! This B/S is a politically driven exercise and nothing more.

Thanks Keith.  I'm not much into sound bites or slogans, and I assume this one wasn't aimed at people who live in this part of London. I have family in other parts of the the country,  so I do understand the lack of spending outside of the South East.  Apparently the White paper is 300 pages if you're looking for some light reading...

Yes indeed,Vanessa.I rarely read her posts as it saves time and have learned that getting into one with her is a trail of  diminishing returns,which had already started at a very low point.Lesson learned.

Yes, many have been there before as well. Our Ms Evans is so very fond of the claim without justification - and then the refusal to justify. Again and again she is challenged and fails to provide any basis for her claims. Yet she still goes on making these empty claims. It is quite pathetic.

Quite wrong, Julian.  Mr Clark, whose posts are well-informed and interesting, has in fact only posted once on this thread.  Ms Evans though is a troll and has posted about a dozen times.  And hats off to Adrian for his great patience in dealing with her.

Quite right, Alastair. As someone whose posts frequently attract interventions from Janice, I can testify to that. Keith's exchange with her started as a consequence of her jumping in after my post about pork barrel politics. The irony is that, when backed into a corner, she often cries 'troll". Alan Clark may irritate his antagonists (especially on the subject of Brexit!) but he is a serious contributor. Perhaps too serious for Julian!

Thanks, Robert.  There’s certainly an interesting discussion to be had about the government’s plan to ‘level up’ but certain contributors do make it more difficult!
