I don’t know about night flight extensions. All I read  about was their plan to try and get £2 a ticket for passengers flying in and out of Heathrow.  Pre pandemic passengers numbers were in excess  of 80 million. The Council would be looking at billions over time. More ££££ to be wasted

AhMaybe Hounslow are trying it on a  technicality that heathrow has a TW6 postcode.Maybe Borough of Hillingdon have mooted £3 and hounslow want a slice of the pie. Or someone at hounslow is a bit behind the times on boundaries and post codesCouncil wars ?

Thinking about it,i can think of 6 other councils off the top of my head that would be in line for a ticket windfall if hounslow were infact thinking of this idea.

Nothing happened at cop 26 so we are waiting for cop 27. Some kind of say yes to an idea until they fly everyone home on multi jets and only then have a change of mind.

Leader of Hounslow Council, Sontaran Commander Stevec Urran declined to comment on the proposed plane ticket levy but said it would definitely not apply to Sontaran troopship spacecraft landing in the borough.

"Nothing happened at COP 26".  Maybe not as much as is needed and was hoped for and it is a shame that many of those who are most affected were unable to travel to it because of countrywide Covid lockdowns.  So are you suggesting and complaining that the Glasgow COP26 was a waste of the UK's funds ie hard-working taxpayers' money?

The Hillingdon Community Fund received £15 million fromm HAL between 2003 and 2019. Any business that wishes to expand it's footprint has to pay S109 money. There is no good reason, as S109 money is supposed to compensate for the detriment experienced when flights numbers increase why Hillingdon should get all the compensation.

Funny but it makes more sense to me and those making flights canafford it unlike a lot of drivers who cannot afford LTNs and drivebecause they have to through lack of mobility.

They should add at least £20 to the price of air tickets. Flying MUST be discouraged to save the planet. Flights must be reduced radically. The money should be used to fix potholes, not to boost airport and airline affiliated businesses. Hounslow’s economy should not rely on the airline industry!

Steve - Hounslow's economy does rely on the airport and associated businesses. That is a statement of fact. By all means let us talk about how to reduce Hounslow's (indeed the whole of London and the South East's) dependence on the wealth and jobs created by Heathrow. The climate emergency is a global problem and if flights to Heathrow were "reduced radically" then I think that we can pretty much guarantee that the flights to rival airports would increase.

The airline industry MUST be reduced. The planet is dying. Not only Heathrow, all commercial airports must reduce. Climate change has made it clear. Hounslow council has been dilly dallying for decades about Heathrow expansion. Those days are over. It is 100% clear how air travel affects the environment.  Hounslow council must STOP protecting airlines and airports simply to protect jobs. It’s criminal to continue to destroy the planet. The inept council seems only able to focus on building more cycle lanes and stopping motor vehicle travel when airlines are the worst polluters.
