Masks.

I couldn't disagree more. Refusal to wear a mask in confined environments is antisocial selfishness. I can't understand why people make such a fuss about a minor inconvenience.

Totally agree with you Robert. Yes masks are a bit of an inconvenience, particularly if you wear glasses, but they should have been mandated much earlier than they were. I get really p***ed off seeing people on public transport ignoring the rules.I also think the vast majority of the electorate would have liked vaccine passports. Unfortunately there were some conservative MP's (whilst claiming to represent their constituents) who wouldn't suppport it.  The moronic minority has too much influence

All this bloody government cares about - especially now that Worzel Johnson has had his card marked - is currying favour with their right-wing nutters, hoping that'll help save 'Big Dog' - makes me sick. No-one likes wearing a mask but I think they should be worn in crowded shops etc. and especially on public transport, problem is it is the moronic majority pushing the Johnson buttons.

"antisocial selfishness". What a load of rubbish. It's a complete waste of time, and far from a 'minor inconvenience'. That's why 'face coverings will not be legally required in any setting from Thursday 27 January, and not before time. Masks are a waste of time unless worn correctly. Do you wear yours correctly, from putting it on to taking it off?

'Far from a minor inconvenience". Poor Brian - do your glasses get fogged up? Do the ear loops pull your ears? You're completely wrong about masks' being a waste of time unless worn correctly. If you're careless when you put a mask on you may compromise your own protection but it will still protect others. Protecting others is the main reason for wearing a mask. I repeat that not wearing one is antisocial selfishness.

Agreed. Mr Coyle seems to have got confused between "slightly less effective" and "a waste of time". I suspect that he carries this confusion into the rest of his life. He does not clean his house as slightly mis-applying the detergent means that it is a waste of time. He does not wear a seat belt when driving as positioning the strap slightly too low across one's chest means it is a waste of time. He does not water his plants because with a risk of slight over watering this means it is a waste of time. There are surely many other examples of things Mr Coyle does not do because very slight mis-use means that they are waste of time.

Ive always thought that wearing masks and keeping out of eachother's faces was the very least we could do, but for some reason it's a bit of an issue. It's usually the non-mask wearer who'll be breathing down my neck in queue. Think masks should be mandatory on Public Transport.

Also if you are caring for someone elderly there is more chance of infecting them if you catch it while out shopping among the unmasked.

They wear them to prevent cross infection and to protect patients - doh! Therefore they do have a positive function. I wear glasses and yes, it's a bit of a pain - my husband who now has hearing aids flips them off occasionally when removing his mask - so what? Quite honestly, like many, I don't feel that I want to waste all the progress we've made at considerable cost to so many people for the sake of a little bit of a nuisance.

Masks restrict oxygen, meaning the heart and lungs have to work harder. They lead to dispelled air being breathed back in again. They hold germs. Masks do more harm than any perceived good hence the government has still not carried out any risk assessment on them for general public use.Masks were only introduced for propaganda, obedience and dehumanising purposes.

I can’t wait till Wednesday, I will be ditching the mask for good this time hopefully. I don’t intend to use it on transport either. As once the law changes, they worst they can do is ask you to leave, then just get on the next bus. Anyway its ridiculous that I have to use it on the train at Chiswick Park, but walk down to Chiswick mainline, and you don’t !The Mayor has gone bonkers

More of your unscientific mumbo jumbo, Michael. There's plenty of serious research which demonstrates that face masks do not make a material difference to intake of oxygen or exhalation of carbon dioxide. I suffer from asthma, but face masks don't materially impede my breathing. Keep on believing that they're out to get you. Your world must be very stressful.

You've been onliged to use a face covering on SouthWest trains since 30 November. Get your facts straight - nothing to do with the Mayor. Consider how you're being manipulated. The abolition of the mask mandate is just part of a scorched earth campaign (defund the BBC, deploy the navy against refugees, remove all Covid restrictions against the weight of expert opinion) designed to distract attention from the scandals at the heart of this utterly rotten administration.

What many on this thread don't understand is that face masks are not meant to protect the wearer, but those others nearby. Hence medical operating staff who wear masks to protect the patient. The mask limits the amount of infective material leaving the mouth/nose of the attendant person.

Good move that some shops will tell customers and staff to continue to wear masks. They will no doubt see their business increase because so sensible person will want to shop in environments where people are coughing and spluttering and spreading Covid around.
