Withdrawal of the Domestic Heating Initiative - and now the good news

This Government Scheme is being withdrawn in March so if you are thinking of installing a heat pump or solar heating panels you better get a move on.See  https://www.gov.uk/domestic-renewable-heat-incentiveThe good news however is that to enable a wider transition away from fossil fuel heating and achieve the ambition set out in the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan of installing 600,000 heat pumps per annum by 2028, new policy levers and incentives will be required.The successor scheme to the DRHI, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), formerly called the Clean Heat Grant, is expected to launch in April.The BUS is a more conventional grant scheme, designed to overcome the barrier of the applicant having to pay for the upfront cost of the purchase and installation of the low carbon heating system, which has been recognised as a barrier to to the success of the DRHI. The starting grant levels will be £5,000 for air source heat pump and biomass installations, and £6,000 for ground source heat pump installations.

Unfortunately it is far more than the last couple of years that have brought us failed initiatives to reduce the use of energy and create warmer and healthier homes for a lot of residents.  Only a few vouchers for the last Green Initiative where residents couldn't find enough companies with the experience and ability to do the necessary work.There are some schemes but what we really need after the selling of schemes that did not work is a lot of testimonies and evidence from people where work has been done which has greatly reduced the amount of energy their homes and offices now use and which has improved the comfort of homes and offices.This is something that Local Authorities should be able to do.  We need more than an Annual Open House Day that happens for buildings of architectural and historical merit.

When do hard working families actually find the time to read and understand all these initiatives. Are they advertised?  Do MPs tell constituents about them in newsletters?

This is exactly why everybody is struggling with the initiatives put in place unfortunately and why we need much more input to encourage and persuade people who are justifiably nervous of making a commitment.
