Dry January

Before I pour myself a very large glass of red wine this evening I thought I had better check that Dry January excludes Fridays and weekends. It does doesn't it?

No problem.  I was ill and on antibiotics at the beginning of the pandemic so stopped drinking and took advantage of the situation to stay away from the habit.  Although I understand a little is good for me I just can't be bothered with it and I've seen friends succumbing to drinking too much too often.

No. I’m not even trying to do dry January, after all January is miserable enough. I’ve just had our Saturday night tipple, a negroni. Large ice cube, equal measures of gin (I like Bombay sapphire), martini rubino and Campari. Slice of orange. Wonderful bitter flavours. Looking forward to trying the martini bitter, a Christmas present,  instead of Campari. If you’ve been dry so far in January and can continue to abstain Monday to Thursday I reckon your good to go on that large glass of red. Enjoy.

Dry January is a big ask as it’s such a long haul and having a birthday in January is no fun if everyone is not drinking, on a diet or has no money after Christmas. However, dry February is a better option as it’s shorter.....

I would like to claim that Jan has been dry so far but really I only started on monday. As you say, dry February is a better idea being shorter! A plan for next year........

I have to confess to liking a decent G&T - but over the Christmas break I had a couple of mulled wines and a glass of bubbly with Christmas dinner, apart from that - nothing. I agree that January is horrible and also subscribe to the old adage a little of what you fancy does you good. As for Veganuary - absolutely not. Life is too short.
