Unaccompanied minor air travel

Has anyone any experience of sending an unaccompanied minor long haul from Heathrow?This is with Emirates from LHR.Main point unknown is how late can the minor be checked in?  and any other useful tips.Emirates say that accompanying adult should remain at the airport until flight has departed, which means said adult will probably be at the terminal at least four hours.

"Main point unknown is how late can the minor be checked in?" You may need to check with Emirates as some but not all airlines like minors to be checked in when it opens and then they are looked after by ground crew from the airline and are sometimes boarded first by flight crew before any other passengers. So at a guess id say its not a case of how late but when does checkin normally open with emirates as you might need to be at the front when it opens

Many thanks, its great help.As child is 12 years old, looks like he doesn't need to be an unaccompanied minor, but can check in in the normal way.
