Christmas Parking in Chiswick

Does anyone know if parking for visitors is free in Chiswick on Christmas Eve as it was last year. I assume that this is definitely the case for Christmas Day and Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th as they are Bank Holidays. I can’t see any information on the Hounslow website for this year, searches only show information for previous years.

Not at all. Rather a welcome seasonal boost to local retailers in those boroughs. As soon as a shopper gets in a car, their chance of buying locally drops. London boroughs competing against each other to provide cheaper parking are in a negative sum game, and one that furthermore inevitably leads to higher pollution, emissions and congestion. I’m pleased our local boroughs have all given up playing!

The majority of people who don’t drive to shop, walk. Clearly their shopping will be more local than those who drive, unless you want to claim driving trips to shop are shorter than walking trips.

There.will be a difference of opinion as there is a fit persons point of viewand unfit person point of view, as I'm unfit at the moment hoping to getbetter it is quicker for me to drive elsewhere and easier to park.

TomIt doesn't sound like you've ever been to Chiswick High Road area on Christmas Eve when LBH have suspended parking charges, it's absolutely packed and not a parking space to be had until parked cars move off.Shoppers are laden with their purchases which are deposited in their cars and they're then ready for Round 2.Btw do you actually live in Chiswick  ?

For me it's mostly carrying heavy items and there must be many othersin the same situation, my problem is sciatica so not disabled as such iteases at times but I still have to be careful lifting and carrying, and cyclinga no no even for exercise.

Impressive yomping, especially as I heard you weren't in the army!And you probably beat the crowds. On a normal Saturday footfall on the High Road reaches over 2000 people an hour, and on Christmas Eve it should be even higher. It's difficult to see how any significant proportion of that number could ever have have come from a few dozen cars parked along the High Road. But what do I know? Loraine repeatedly questions if live Chiswick, though I'm more up date than her with the names our new entries on the High Road. How many times did you have to tell her, Carl, before she believed you?

I used my trusty shopping trolley. As for Loraine and her chum, I gave up as I was repeatedly called a liar. Then some kind soul posted my notification from the London Gazette ...

Army training: use the right tool for the job!I could post a utility bill, I suppose. But what really is the point. Loraine is quite happy to endorse the views of fake posters such as Paul Green, Bill George, Chris Soze and David Riley, so the validity of either the evidence or who’s posting it is not really a determinant for her.

So why, then, do you never advocate for a better program for space making and urban design to encourage a better pedestrian experience and quality of life?Remains a mystery. Although you kinda budged when you went on about the parklet in Barnes. But you also forgot to mention that in Barnes they created more parking per the very reference you cited from the BCA website.

If the shops are open on Sundays and Bank Holidays much as they are during the week, it would seem sensible to have the same parking restrictions.

No it wouldn’t because a sizeable proportion of traffic during weekdays is commuter traffic. On a bank holiday most of the commuter traffic disappears. Parking restrictions e.g. yellow lines are there to facilitate smoother flow of commuters (amongst many other things). On a Bank Holiday, Saturday or Sunday restrictions are appropriate.
