Using uber

We will need to get to Euston a number of times over the next month and cannot use public transport. So I was thinking of using uber, which I have never done before. Does anyone know the likely cost of a one way journey to Euston? Also I have heard that if you are in central London and book an uber, they may not turn up because they work for multiple companies and take higher paying jobs and cancel your job. Anyone got any info about this? All advice welcomed!

Uber to Euston could be anything in the range of £15 to £35 - it depends on the surge pricing that applies at the time. If prices are increasing in the short term you could find you get cancellations but that shouldn't happen unless you are travelling in rush hour. Nevertheless you probably need to allow a bit of extra time if you are catching a train or picking someone up arriving on one. Other that the cancellation issue, the service is excellent.

The cost varies according to demand. At this very moment the cost is about £22 for a one way trip from the Acton Green area.  I use Uber a fair amount and have had no problems. If your driver decides not to turn up then you are informed and you can find another driver very easily particularly in central,London.I often do not accept the first price, if you wait it can reduce by quite a bit particularly (I have found) in the early morning.After each trip you get to rate the driver and you can see his rating before you accept him. Equally, the driver gets to rate the customer too....

Be careful Uber and bolt have been not reliable over the last 2-3 weeks and not just me but others in the family. Normal is seeing the price, book, and then it is accepted by driver only to be told driver cancelled job within a min. Then you look and the price has doubled. Roomer is it is being done on purpose by many to hike up price in a surcharge. My belief it that could be very true Happened last Friday evening. Youngest came out of the theatre in the west end, uber was £22, booked and accepted by the driver and then he cancelled seconds later. Next the price was £48,more than double

Iris  people loved uber because they were cheap cheap cheap  in fact on their forum the drivers call passengers "cheapos" or "bus riders"  ironically the millenials love them ,ironic because of their inherant hatred of slavery and rightly so but £15 to euston less 25% commission less car less fuel driven by an immigrant  now how is that not slavery.  Now they cancel left right and centre ,surging like crazy.Careful what you wish for a.  Use a Local minicab firm Chiswick Cabs 0208 995 5555  they will actually turn up and reasonable costs

Iris, get the Bolt app as well as Uber. The drivers are Uber and Bolt drivers as well and you can compare prices. Plus you can use the other app if it's too long a wait.You'll get a bit of discount on your first few trips with Bolt.

I've found Uber on permanent surge pricing recently.  They're now about the same cost as a black cab, especially on longer journeys where they get there quicker due to use of bus lanes.Given the pandemic, it is safer as well - you're separate from the driver.If you don't have a rank nearby, use the GETT app to book one.

"You'll get a bit of discount on your first few trips with Bolt" That is a good point Sometimes 50% of first 3 rides or 10 of first ride and £5 off next two rides with bolt Forgot about the discounts

I had to get a very early cab to Heathrow last month (Picadilly Line was out) so I booked with Angel Cars of Acton. Website indicated fare would be £18, though it was actually £19, which I thought very good value.Driver turned up nicely on time and service was fine (though his car didn't half rattle!).

Uber has been an absolute scam recently. Last Saturday week they wanted £25 to get from Kew Green to Acton Green at 11.30 pm - I ended up paying £13 in a black cab. Last month they wanted £20 to get from the Glebe Estate to Acton Green at 12.30 am on a Sunday...

I’ve noticed Uber have been very unreliable recently, I’ve had to change plans at the last minute every time recently because they cancel the driver and then the search for a new one takes too long.I don’t agree that Uber was loved because of cheap prices, i loved them because I felt safer knowing I could step out of a venue late at night and guarantee a driver was there to take me home, unlike the bad old days when you’d be searching for ages for a cab. And in my youth black cabs were a nightmare they’d never take me home because “they weren’t going that way”
