Trafalgar square xmas tree

Not exactly important but its been knocked as looking half dead. i have to say with the lights just switched on it looks even more blooming hideous. Maybe it has been in isolation for 10 days

Chris Blackwell, suggested possibly tongue in cheek "I suspect it's something to do with Brexit."As is well known, it's gift from the Govt of Norway to the people of London for their help and their sacrifice during World War 2. A gesture of good will.What is beyond dispute, is that all of the goodwill that the UK built up in Europe, as a result of twice sacrificing thousands of her young men and crippling her economy, courtesy of loans from ourgreatest "ally", the US, in order to "save" Europe, has all been thrown down the drain courtesy of blustering, mendacious hooligans such as Johnson,Cummings, and Farage not forgetting their enforcer "Mad" David Frost.michael adams

On the other hand we are a long way from WW2 and Norway should surely recognise climate change and global warming and stop killing trees. Times have changed. We don’t need their gratitude any longer!

Cutting down xmas trees is a cycle. As you cut one a 6 month old tree from seed is planted in its place. As to norway,its called tradition.

As all of Norway's sovereign wealth comes from their oil reserves I doubt they're that bothered about the odd tree here and there. As to gratitude I was rather forgetting De Gaulle and his "non!" - Do someone a big favour and they'll resent it, and you, for the rest of their life.michael adams

Is Norway a member of the EU? I think not, maybe it’s just that they’ve had a bad growing year.

Norway is, however, a of the European Economic Area and as such enjoys free trade with the EU which we threw away for no good reason with serious consequences. Margaret Thatcher would never have allowed that to happen

And Norway will regret not being in the EU when their economy collapses as we boycott oil and the building of new oil rigs. Time to forget tradition and recognise climate change.

There's a photo on Mayor Khan's Facebook page celebrating the Norwegian Christmas Tree gift showing Mayors of the City of London, of Oslo and Khan of City Hall singing the carol "Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin ran away..." etc.

"So the Norwegians have said thank you....but now it is time to stop murdering trees."There are two sorts of tree in Norway.  Those that are part of a protected forest and are not allowed to be murdered.  And those that were planted as part of a plantation and will be cut down for timber and be replaced. The latter trees had, if you like, a planned temporary life as part of a major Norwegian industry.I read today that Norway is the first country in the world to commit to no longer using any products that contribute to deforestation.I for one continue to appreciate their annual gesture to London.
