Pork pie

Anywhere local (or local-ish) that sells large pork / game pies, that sort of thing. Ideally not a supermarket.

I make my own with traditional hot water crust pastry filled with pork shoulder and belly with herbs and some spices.

Thanks Julian, Yes I do. The last few times in Bayley and Sage I haven't seen anything like pork pies / the variety of scotch eggs they used to do etc, just their usual selections of ham/cheese etc. I glanced int heir counter earlier in the week and none to be seen. So i don't think they do them any more.  Ditto, Mackens often had them, but last time i asked they needed to be ordered, which would be too late for me.  Will give the Ginger Pig a look.

Try Hammonds down by Kew Bridge. You could incorporate the shop into a nice river walk as we sometimes do. That way you feel less guilty about eating the pie!

I was in there at the weekend. His deli counter is a fish counter now, so again, not too sure he does that kind of thing. What i'm really after is a big one. The sort you'd share between a dozen people rather than eat on a stroll!

Allways fortnums if your in town. While you most likely wont be let down over the quality and taste it will  most likely cost you an average £10 more, but it is xmas.

It’s a bit of a trek but the Royal Farm Shop in Old Windsor does large pies etc.

Ginger pig. sorted. Bayley and sage do still do the scotch eggs though, so i was wrong about that.

The Maids of Honour (Newans) by Kew Gardens used to sell giant Pies. Suitable for cutting up into 12 portions. ..but..that was some years back.I recall that they used to cost some £30!

They were about £9 each. Pork pies a couple of quid less.  Size is about 20cm diameter. maybe 15cm high. 6-8 nice sized slices basically.
