Big change to the skyline in North Chiswick

For those of you in Chiswick who have noticed the appearance of the huge tower under construction on the northern skyline you may be interested in the latest update on development in the area. This is just the first of what looks like five 50 storey plus towers in the area. There are more details in this article on the ActonW3.com site but the picture below tells the story.

And just to think, almost everywhere in that photowas all green fields just 100 years ago. If only we'd all stayed where we were, they wouldn't have had to build all those houses and factories and spoiled *those* peoples' nice view. michael adams

Progress is inevitable and housing is desperately needed but it shouldn't be the case that these buildings can just appear on the horizon in the area where you live without you receiving any sort of notification.

You could find yourself living on the 20th floor with no view... just looking at 20th floor in the skyscraper next door. No fun at all.

I would hate it but being on the top floor i guess comes with great views. I think i would invest in a good telescope. Possibly a good base jumping parachute aswell

I'm sure they do but having lived on the top floor in a towerblock (not a penthouse costing squillions) ,when the lifts pack up,it's a long way down to grab a pint of milk.The views were awesome though.Great to look out of,not so good to look at.

I knew someone who lived ion the 12th floor I think it was, many years ago. She said even when the lifts were working,  it’s was a pain if you got downstairs and realised you’d left something behind, and had to go back for it.

Think of what it must be like in the current situation with Covid. I very much doubt many lifts are big enough to manage much social distancing, as it is. And there's no telling who might get on at any of the intermediate floorson the way down.None of them would be very much fun with a pram or a pushchair either. Which given the lack of parking provided in many of them would seem almost a necessity. For at least some of the occupants at some stage. They can't just keep throwing up starterhomes surely, with nowhere for the occupants to move onto eventually ?  michael adams

People with children suffered badly during lockdown, in flats with no private garden. Who knows if  that will happen again.

I just noticed yesterday that this building can be seen from Chiswick High Road at the bottom end of Turnham Green. As I believe most of the accommodation will be occupied by students few children will live there.
