Xmas spoiled - parcels to EU

so upset - got charged £42 postage for a 2.1 kg parcel. Please be alerted that you don’t go over £39.00 ( I believe) for gifts …. Otherwise the recipient has to pay costumer charges for HIS/HER Christmas present….Happy Xmas ;-)

I sent a large book to Tuscany (£15 postage) and declared the value at £25. On arrival the recipient had to pay circa six euros tax.Worse, it took over a month to get there as I believe Italian customs routinely hold any item for at least twenty days or so.We won't be sending any more parcels.

The new reality is that if you live in any EU country then you no longer buy from a UK outlet. The delays and charges are so high (red tape free, free trade, simplest deal ever) that it’s not worth it. Smart UK businesses have set up Europe based outlets - jobs and tax revenue for Europe. Meanwhile I buy from Amazon Germany or Spain. I previously bought from Amazon UK. Or now I buy direct from the EU outlet, employing EU people not UK people, of a UK company. I’m impressed as to how beneficial Brexit has been for the EU.

Alan, I quote your JOBS AND TAX REVENUE FOR EUROPE! The sad fact is people do not realise this. As you look into the facts, the Netherlands have benefited enormously from Brexit. Very welcoming with industrial units etc. The old cliche Brexit keeps on giving, sadly not to us!

Yes, the news in the UK about how Brexit is impacting countries in different ways appears to be somewhat filtered. In France the consensus is that Brexit and the UK is mad. Contrary to what the likes of Farage claim there is no (none, rein, zero, nada) desire to follow England. In the meantime everything goes on as is as possibly normal given COVID. No shortages, no fear about ruined Xmas, no labour shortages. That’s life in the EU. Of course, I need to speak a funny foreign language and eat funny foreign food. I learnt how to make confit de canard this afternoon. Happy days.

I have friends and family in Australia and parcel post either way is much more expoensive now relative to a couple of years ago.

That is a dumb point. What you dismissively describe as whinging is, as far as we can, actually criticism. A challenge. An attempt at saying wait, that is worth questioning.Now your approach of ignore and walk away (and get on with life) can work so well, so often. But faced with big issues, big problems, big frauds - that walking away is not really effective. Is it?I never, ever want to be the passive, sadly accepting, ignoring big problems sap that you seem to be promoting. But, hey, each to their own.
