Who's letting off fireworks.

Been going on for the last few nights from dusk onwards by utterly stupid idiots, just when I am walking the dogs, makes them very upset. Thoughtless imbeciles with unfettered access to these dangerous explosives means that a ban on all fireworks apart from at public diplays is well overdue.

"Get a life" - an intolerant dismissal of a point of genuine concern. Fireworks are indeed fun, but they also cause enormous distress to animals. I agree with Claire that they need to be confined to authorised public displays, and perhaps also permitted for private use on a few specified occasions e.g. 5th November and Diwali.

Robert, thank you, and 'get a life' and  'more fireworks please' type comments are not just intolerant but also ignorant and completely lacking in empathy for domesticated and wildlife animals.According to my 5 American close friends, who all now live in Chiswick, fireworks have no place in Halloween.

Some of the remarks on here reinforce my belief that Chiswick is home to some of the most stupid, selfish, and ignorant people on the planet who basically seem to live life for their own gratification, presumably swilling their Chablis with a couple of joints stuck up their nostrils and a blindfold.  Probably old and deaf too.

Shame on Claire for saying old and deaf. I am old and deaf but loathe fireworks. My neighbours pony died of a heart attack when a banger startled it  Many dogs shiver and shake even indoors in a hideaway you make for them.  I am a volunteer at a rehoming centre and could quote some distressing stories. Finally,  dogs cannot go out for fear of heart attacks or bolting . Cats have  to be kept indoors as do rabbits. Some nasty people have been known to tie fireworks onto animals tails. They die in agony.

Fireworks are not fun.  I was blinded by one when I was 9 years old.  A&E depts are always packed with people with injuries around 5th November. Ban them!!

Simon, if you're replying to me, that's only my US chums 😉What's that saying about America catching chill and UK getting a cold - seems apposite re Halloween nowdays in UK, it's all a bit OTT imo. Especially with fireworks thrown into the mix.Pre Covid there were quite a few reports of houses being egged and flour bombed if they didn't provide the 'Treat' element of Trick or Treat, as well as kids with their parents being bussed into Chiswick as it was deemed a lucrative area to pick up free goodies.Also see front page story...

I don't know if egging and flour-bombing was necessarily in response to failure to provide a treat, or if it was just anti-social behaviour from marauding yobs who appeared long after the kids had gone home. We were in bed one Halloween when I heard a noise downstairs at nearly midnight. I only noticed the damage next morning: the stained glass was cracked in the hall window, and both it and the car were covered in egg.

Agree , They should be  banned. Well  except for well organised events for Nov. 5th , New Years Eve and Diwali. Should not go on for weeks as it has done in the past. Must admit so far no fire works in Acton this Halloween , so far and it is now 7 pm. Fingers crossed .

Any one who loves animals, knows the distress Fireworks cause. Endless nights of these now often powerful explosive bangs is not on.As for get a life, please, an animal in your life is a powerful experience.Yes organised display yes. Not endless night after night.
