Looking for builder

Recommendation wanted for a builder who can carry out structural work. Anyone had good experience and can recommend? Thanks

No one seems to have replied but there is a lot of building works going on in Chiswick.Walking the dog round Bedford Park you can see which houses are being worked on and most have the builders name on the hoarding.  Because most of these houses are listed and require planning permission, the works are not likely to be cheap but maybe worth noting some names and giving them a call.You could also be cheeky and knock on the door to ask the house owner some questions.Hope this helps or prods others to respond

Elizabeth has hit the nail on the head. Our experience with builders has been frankly horrendous and it's worth noting that if a builder is available at short notice then there is a very good reason for that, ie they are not very good!Very interested to hear of any GOOD builders, although I suspect that's an oxymoron!

I get the impression that even if you get a good recommendation about a builder from someone who has used them things may well have changed significantly since then and you could have a very different experience. For example builders starting out will be keen to get a good reputation and turn out their best work but when this honeymoon period is over it’s a different story.

we had a big extension built, and it all went completely finethe builder, who is local, and has been around for a very long time, was greatthey pop back now and then to fix snags (for free)to find a good builder, you have to ask for references, and actually talk to the referencesand not just take the cheapest quote, because in the end it will cost you moreI will ask him whether he wants a recommendation on CW4

Finding a builder in the current environment is even more difficult; the labour and materials shortage has created the perfect storm. I was trying to find builders in Manchester and I'd say the call back rate was 10%, the turn-up-and-quote rate worse.

Try Vincent on 07939 142 047.He's just finished an extension for us - and the work is excellent.  His pricing is competitive and tbh - having worked with many builders over the years - he is simply head and shoulders the best we've come across. Has been oft recommended on this forum by others (which is how we found him in the first place).Not sure how busy he is at the moment, but very much worth giving him a call.

Just had a six month plus job done in ChiswickWe used MORESPACE, They have a very good reputation and access to all necessary skills. I would recommend them without a second thought. Ask any quoting Builder can you see some of their completed projects.Good luck

The important thing in employing a builder is to know, in detail, what work you want done. Woolly ideas and instructions will end in tears.What I do, is chronologically  list step by step EVERYTHING that I want done down to the coat of paint. Discuss the job with at least two firms and ask them to quote using the exact same specification. Normally the work can be broken down into stages. If so agree payments at each stage.Inevitably there will be some changes as the work progress but these should only be minor if you have done your homework.
