Chris Blackwell asked" Quick question: how do I post links on the forum ?"You need to post using the "updated" version of the site. https://new.chiswickw4.com/#homeIf you can get the site to load, then when replyingto posts on the forum you have the opportunity to insert links, images, media etc in your post. There's a bar along the top of the reply box with an addition sign for insertions. Along with other options. You may have sign in again although I've found thisdoesn't always work for some reason. This is the link to your question,https://new.chiswickw4.com/#!forum|topic/1479704michael adams...

Or you can get coding in HTML. I laboriously produced instructions on how to do this in a post here in 2007.  It was laborious because the post had to be specially constructed to ensure that the forum software just displayed the code rather than acting on it. That 2007 post is at http://appasp.chiswickw4.com/server/app/forum/ShowMessage.Asp?ID=305548

Oh what fun we had in those days Richard, you taught us all how to post pictures and lots of other things we couldn't figure out. Wasn't it Wimbledon site we used for practice? It is hard to believe how many years ago that was..

Why does the site not automatically redirect to the new version?

Al Webber "Why does the site not automatically redirect to the new version?"Some people myself included possibly prefer the old site where every page displays full screen rather then the new site. Where each page is cluttered with resizable scrollable frames making it more difficult to navigate your way around. IME its much easier to follow forum threads on the oldversion but if bells and whistles are required when making a reply then its necessary to bite the bulletand find that thread on the new version, michael adamd

I use the new version habitually now. I emailed the site to ask why it hadn't been switched over fully a few weeks back and they said the work was mostly done and they had switched over in other areas but there were some features popular with Chiswick users that had not yet been made fully functional. There are resource issues which is making progress slow but to be frank I have not noticed anything missing from the new version other than personal messaging which I rarely use. The new way of handling messages takes a bit of getting used to but you no longer have to open individual posts and putting up pictures is simple.

I tried the new version when it first emerged but not for long because it didn’t seem to me to be an improvement.  There are other forum format options out there.  I’m surprised that the powers that be opted for the one they did.

Andrew O'Sullivan explained concerning the new site]" you no longer have to open individual posts"Which also means that its possible to *not* open i.e ignore individual posts, made by particular posters for whatever reason.Threads on this forum have been known to reach 100 posts. On the original site it's possible to go straight to the latest contribution, usually found at the end of any thread straight away.I stand to be corrected but presumably on the "improved" site, its necessary to scroll through possibly up to 100 posts before reading the latest contributions ?While the new site facilitates the downloading of photos on some monitor resolutions anyway it also crops those photos, rather than scaling them down as does the original site. Basically with any website it shouldn't be possible to guess the size of the monitor which was used by the designer i.e the bigger the better in most casesAs both these sites are free to use, nobody myself included is in any real position to complain, Theseobservations are simply in answer to the question as to why the old site should be allowed to remain  michael adams
