"Does this restriction (5.00pm - 8.00am) apply to disabled drivers?"According to the signs at the High Road end of Devonshire Road, no.  They say "Except [wheelchair symbol] and for access".  According to the Traffic Management Order, the specific exemption for disabled badge holders is only to access the disabled parking bays near to 3a - 11a Devonshire Road.

I know that our local councilors have queried this & failed to get a cogent answer from Hounslow. Apparently one reply on the 8 - 5 restriction was that these are the hours Hounslow Council's offices are open! Yes, it's that arbitary. The restriction serves no purpose at all other than to force Glebe Estate residents down Brackley Lane into Swanscombe, thus putting cars onto previously quiet streets. The vast majority of Glebe Estate residents want full access restored but we are still being ignored.

I ask because if you didn’t know what access means in this context is as you itemise how is a driver supposed to know the specific meaning. Drivers without local knowledge could argue they needed access to the rest of Devonshire Rd.

Absolutely in line with Hounslow policy of spreading confusion in CHISWICK and raising revenue by way of fines !

I'd have thought 'drivers without local knowledge' would be more likely to be on the look out for signs and to respond to them, while local drivers are more likely to continue using their familiar routes, 'unaware' of the changes and not 'noticing' the signs. As I understand it, 'Access' only allows you to get to properties in the restricted length of road, but that's not so easy if you don't know where the restriction ends, as its only indicated by the blank back of the other sign!

What everyone wants is access restored to Glebe St & beyond 24hours a day, as was previously the case. There is absolutely no logic to bringing in this restriction after 17.00. Of course the local traffic wardens have been busy whacking tickets on vehicles in the parking bays post 17.00, leaving visitors to Chiswick deeply perplexed.

I suppose the assumption is that, after 17:00, al fresco drinking and dining will spill out onto Devonshire Road and a good time will be had by all.  Hmm!
