The fun school run in Chiswick

I have posted our experience of cycling in a separate post. Our posts must have crossed.

Good to see people using the cycle path. Definitely safer for kids now it is segregated, just a shame more don't follow suit. And Paul, don't worry if anyone mentions the shadow of you riding and using your phone. It is not an offence to use a phone while riding a bike, whatever people may assume.

It is safer - but there's still a perception that cycling to school is unsafe. And there is some truth in that - there's very limited cycle lane provision and they don't always take you all the way to the front gate. You have to use pavements for some of the journey and even quietways and LTNs can be a bit hairy with very young kids on the road.As more parents switch to cycling - at least occasionally - whether using Babboes or on individual bikes, it encourages other parents to give it a go. The more kids on bikes there are during the school rush, the more considerate and careful drivers are around them.It really is a no brainer if you work, even from home: the time saved cycling vs walking or driving can be an hour a day.

Would expect cycle lanes to at least reach the schools.
Janice Evans ● 1850d
No, just rank stupidity
Mark Warburton ● 1850d
Brilliant. It's always a great start to have a bit of exercise on the way to school before you need to sit down and concentrate on your book work.

More fun in the school run in the rain and puddles in Chiswick's safer cycling spaces 😍
Paul Campbell ● 1850d
Such fun!

What a load of utter tosh, I was out from 6.40am to 7.20am and saw 3 lycra clad cyclists, not a school run with parent and kids in sight. However, huge puddles spilling over from the roads onto pavements...

You were about an hour early. School drop offs are around 8.30.
Meanwhile in Barcelona a school bike bus on Fridays that started with 5 kids now looks like this: https://twitter.com/i/status/1449311777309741063

In the first video, the striking thing is how few cars are using the special car lane.
Simon Pedley ● 1832d
Yes it is clearly not fit for purpose, ill thought through, not working and should probably be removed forthwith.
Paul Campbell ● 1832d
One of your videos shows excellent footage of the vehicle congestion caused by the new cycle lane. No doubt those drivers were trying to get to work on time but now find their commute time considerably longer and residents and pedestrians are subjected to increased pollution.
Mairi Franses ● 1832d
Which one?
The dedicated car lane should have been placed along the A4. Crazy.
Paul Scullion ● 1832d
Agreed. There are already three dedicated car lanes going in the same direction on the A4. Fuming.
Why so you can delete it maybe?

Psychological projection?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection
Ed Saper ● 1832d
I've looked at the original video, the first one posted. Is it necessary for a small child to have to ride at what looks like a frantic pace.
Maggie Dodge ● 1832d
Not really frantic Maggie, if his bike has gears he's probably in the wrong one.
Chris Blackwell ● 1832d
Well as you know Chris , I don’t cycle. I didn’t think it looked like fun to me but I know you’re an expert on such matters. My granddaughters are lucky enough to walk to school and they really do have fun, meeting friends along the way. Litter picking some mornings too. Doing their bit bless them.
Always reminds me of Mellor feeding his daughter a burger, when people indulge in cheap political propaganda using childrenhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/may/16/newsid_2913000/2913807.stm

Or Gummer lol.
I have so many concerns about these youngsters. How far are they cycling, from what age, in what weather. I’d honestly prefer to see them walking. All the adults moaning about wanting roads made safer for cycling, and then exposing children to those perceived dangers.
So agree, Mark, Maggie and Russell. I find the disinformation campaign by the what comes across as very aggressive cyclist maniacs deeply disturbing and threatening. It feels so very, very wrong.
Claire Moran ● 1832d
Sure Clare Moron and Dodgy Maggie, you'll only be happy when gasping your last breaths and today's kids are sucking on the fumes of an exhaust pipe, well done you both.

Silly names , how very mature . In case you’re missing all the news. Cycling is not taking off, except apparently some black and Asian people are taking it up and some people are thinking about it. The great Willy Norman says so, so it must be true. Cyclists are being condemned daily and LTNs and cycle lanes increase pollution. On yer bike
Per km travelled, cycling is safer than walking in the UK.Google it if you don't believe me.
Al Webber ● 1831d
Is that because pedestrians are in danger of being run over by cyclists on pavements and jumping red lights? 😂 safe cycling is surely reliant on cyclists following the rules and they don’t seem to be good at that, Google it 👍
