Petrol availability in and around Chiswick?

Does anyone know how to get the heads up on petrol deliveries to forecourts in the area for those of us that are key workers? I am running on fumes and went to six different petrol stations this morning with no luck. Won't have enough petrol to keep trawling around. I do not drive unnecessarily.  My job is working with terminally ill children and I need my car for work.  Today I am unable to use it.Any advice gratefully receivedThanks

Having hit the road at 4.45 this morning - specifically to get some - I found petrol at the fourth station I visited; A4/Cromwell Road (city-bound, just before Hammersmith). 30-minute wait, £35 limit. The w/b branch was empty.  Good luck.

Gordon McDonald ● 1853d

I heard yesterday that the Esso station on Castlenau, just south of Hammersmith Bridge, still had some.  You'd have to go via Chiswick Bridge, Mortlake and Barnes.

Richard Jennings ● 1853d

Thanks.  Given the queues on the A4 later on I am not holding my breath for the chance.  May have to try the 4am approach tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice although not sure my "fumes" would get me back from there if it turns out to be empty. Bit cross about the full tanks in the gas guzzlers in my road which either don't go anywhere (other than to panic buy petrol) or merely use them to drop child at school which would only be a 10 minute walk away.  Oh well c'est la vie.

Maria, Sainsbury, towards Richmond, fill up overnight.  Husband needed to get to Woking this morning.  Arrived around 8am.  Queued for 30 mins.  Very well organised and a pleasant orderly crowd. Please don’t play the ‘class’ card.  He has Euro 6 diesel which is ultra clean and averages around 72 mpg.  What about yours?

Elizabeth Ross ● 1853d

I see no evidence whatever of anyone playing a  "‘class’ card", apart from possibly Elizabeth Ross. Maybe you're confusing this thread with another, unrelated one.

Phil Kay ● 1853d

Thank you Phil - you are correct I was not playing a "class card" whatever that means and was somewhat bemused by the comment.  Just trying to get to work to support the terminally ill. For Elizabeth's benefit I drive a Fiat 500 - very efficient and low enough emissions to mean reduced vehicle tax.  As well as that it fits into parking spaces very neatly without being outside the white lines or having to park partly on the pavement.  Have a lovely evening all!

Maria Bradford ● 1853d

I hired a Fiat 500 when I was in France a few weeks ago. It was shit.

Maria, there is a group called OneChiswick who say they campaign for the rights of key workers like yourself who need their cars to care for terminally ill patients. I am sure one of the founders could help you out here with a loan of petrol or a car. Their members have plenty of both. You can contact them via Facebook if they agree that you hate cyclists enough to be allowed in to the group. Otherwise you can donate to their GoFundMe page, although nobody knows where the money goes.

Paul Campbell ● 1853d

The Jet garage on the way to Brentford had petrol yesterday evening - the guys there incredibly well organised - i was in and out in about ten minutes.

Birna Helgadottir ● 1853d

Maria-There are also many cycling/LTN advocates such as Paul who, at a time like this, would simply tell you (demand you) to cycle. I figure in these woke times it's best to equally apply snide. I hope my virtue signalling hasn't overstepped or offended.

David Lesniak ● 1853d

OneChiswick has many cyclists among their number. Paul CampbellIs a car owner/driver. As I understand it

Maggie Dodge ● 1852d

South parade has petrol they have capped it at £35 per person 👏👏👏 stop panicking and be considerate, panic buying created this situation so don’t panic buy please, think of others.

Jayne Thorburn ● 1852d

Blimey! From reading a couple of recent posts on this thread, it would now appear that it is cyclists who are to blame for the current petrol shortages.Who'd a thunk it, eh?

Richard Cathcart ● 1852d

Were they told to deliver by bike 😉

Janice Evans ● 1852d

It doesn’t really matter where funding for OneChiswick goes. They do a splendid job. Unlike the Lycra bum thugs!

Steve Taylor ● 1851d

Well the cyclists are responsible for the traffic jams and thus the high pollution and the LTNs cause much additional fuel usage so it stands to reason that cyclists are responsible for the fuel shortage.

Steve Taylor ● 1851d

Cargo bike delivery of petrol filled jerry cans was a missed opportunity for a local entrepreneur!Oh well, at least it got people motivated to look into electric cars.

Ed Saper ● 1851d

Such joy to return to the UK this evening. Queued for petrol. And then Sainsbury’s where very few people are wearing masks.Where did it all go wrong?

Stewart Jones ● 1851d

Where did you get petrol? I went to 14 petrol stations today and none had petrol including in the last half hour both the shell garages on Acton Vale, the Esso opposite twyford Avenue, the BP near Gunnersbury park, the Esso on Chiswick roundabout, the shell on Goldhawk rd. Also none  at either BP or shell near Hanger Lane this evening.

David Turner ● 1851d

Today (Monday) I've been driving round the are quite a bit although didn't need petrol. According to my passenger some of the pumps at the Esso station were open and there didn't seem to be much queueing, same at the BP garage on the junction of Popes Lane and the North Circular. There were queues going up Acton Lane for the BP Garage on South Parade - not sure how far though.

Jeremy Parkinson ● 1847d

Ed, my thoughts also until some have had difficulty in charging them recently, My friend has a hybrid and won't leave home with low petrol.

Janice Evans ● 1847d

Look at the tory party conference, no masks. The view is we are over covid and must move on. 30000 plus new cases yesterday so draw you own conclusions.

Nicholas Beard ● 1847d

30,000 new cases but fewer in hospital and fewer deaths.I wonder if we had been shown lurid graphs, in the past, of the number of new flu cases would we have been wearing masks and demanding lockdown each year?

Will Watson ● 1847d

We have driven up north today once you get past Bedford every garage had petrol and zero queues so this appears to be a London issue hopefully it will get resolved this week. Everyone should go back to their usual behaviour when buying petrol and stop panicking really silly behaviour and totally unnecessary.

Jayne Thorburn ● 1847d

I'm sure there is a small element of panic buying but don't forget a significant proportion of cars on the road are private hire vehicles which will go through petrol quickly and whose drivers will have no choice to fill up regularly. There are also a large number of people for whom driving high mileage each day is a necessary and unavoidable aspect of their job. Think about it this way - would you queue for several hours as many people had to at the height of the crisis unless the alternative was being unable to earn a living?

Jeremy Parkinson ● 1847d

If anyone is still interested there was none at Sainsburys or the BP garage at Manor Circus on the way to Richmond this morning; but found some at the the Jet garage on the A315/Brentford High St. The petrol was 139.99p (diesel 140.99p) per litre there which, I think, is more expensive than some places but beggars ...

Allan Cousens ● 1846d

At some point panic buyers will all be full. Some people I know do around 3000 miles only a year. So they wont panic buy if they filled right up. Taxis and such are obviously big users. In the garages I have noticed a lot of van's, I doubt if these are panic buying.

Nicholas Beard ● 1846d

Kew Bridge road, in between the two Brentford grounds. No queue this morning, some pumps are not working but no panic buying.

peter king ● 1846d

All is not lost. The government has secured visas for  twenty seven EU lorry drivers -drivers that did not need visas until we left the  EU with a very shoddy deal.

Stewart Jones ● 1846d

Rumours in France that the EU is considering offering 5 year working visas to British HGV drivers. Why would any of them wish to enjoy better working conditions, lucrative supply chain routes serving population centres in multiple countries with frictionless trade and facilities with good food and flushing loos when they have sovereignty and can poo in a bag behind a hedge on a Great British lay-by.

Paul Campbell ● 1846d

Indeed so. And a country which is now killing pigs. Quelle surprise!
