Apparently they don’t want to bring in the army yet. I can’t pretend to understand how things work, or how they came to that decision. I would say, do we need to wait for the situation to be even more dire than now, rather than step in now ?

Agree with you Julian.  I find myself totally exasperated by these class warriors who seem to think that they are so much better than others and pedal their particular prejudices on every topic to get noticed.It’s called intimidation.  Learn some tolerance.  You don’t have to like Boris but at the same time you don’t have to slag him off at every petty opportunity. I wouldn’t have been happy if Corbin got into Downing Street and I dare say he would have made a right mess of what has happened to all of us over the last 2 years.Freedom of speech is much prized by almost all and under great pressure by the ‘thought’ police.

Rather than rationing with a £35 "cap", might it not be more (ahem) rational to impose a "floor" i.e. £35 minimum purchase?That way you'd stop the queues being extended by people topping up vehicles which are already half or three quarters full.Just a thought.

That's just a term you use to discredit a view that offends you. Stewart can be very boring, with his constant denunciation of the sins of Johnson and his acolytes. But that's irritation, not intimidation! Your reference to Corbin is nothing more than outrageous whataboutery. It's not Corbin who's in power and doing all the damage. The final irony in your post was your expressed concern for freedom of speech. This from someone who is trying to silence Stewart. And who are these Orwellian "thought police"? You bandy around borrowed expressions of prejudice without any thought as to their relevance.

Say to them "you're paying a minimum of £40 how ever much you put in" and guess what they'll only fill up when actually needed rather than topping up whenever they see a queue.  It's genius idea.

Affordability excuse I don't buy.  Even if someone usually religiously spends say £20 a week they just go 2 weeks then fill. Specifically said cars not motorbikes.

You have in the past sent me loving missives. So many adoring posts. Now, given that you are very easily pleased, I offer my loving services to you. I am certain that again you will be very easily pleased. Therefore it shan’t take much effort on my part. Enjoy. In all modesty I’ve only so much to offer. What I haven't heard anyone say is how we are going to get all these people to train as HGV drivers. The training is extremely expensive and - say for the sake of argument - someone would like to do it but they've been on a low wage and perhaps on UC top up, how on earth can they hope to do that? Why aren't the DWP/Job Centre offering to help with the fees? Given the amount of benefit this will save in the long run, it would surely make sense, even if people who qualify have to pay some of the costs back over time?

Apparently there are a lot of people who have trained to be HGV drivers but unable to take their test during Covid bringing in army instructors to support the testing process. It will sort of only people would stop panic buying fuel it will settle down. We are making matters worse by being really silly and topping up all the time under normal circumstances no one does this.

Not in our house - we didn't do anything different to what we normally do in the first argy-bargy and neither have we this time. Pity this stupid government didn't learn from the bog roll and pasta saga, the one word you do not use is 'panic', as in - there is no need to panic buy. Sometimes you can really believe that the British public is made up of complete morons.
