Brownie badges

I’m trying to sew my granddaughters badges on but I can’t get the needle through the badge or the sash. Is there a trick? Can’t believe how hard it is.

A bit of a cheat Maggie, but I used to use fabric glue for Beaver and Cub badges! Worked pretty well.

Thank you so much , that’s exactly what I’m looking for. They’re impossibly difficult to sew and I’ve  got 6 of them !

The fabric glue I have always used is called Bondaweb, which comes as a "web" with a paper backing, and you cut a piece more or less the right size, with its paper backing, and iron it on to the back of the badge, then cut round the edges, peel off the paper backing, and iron onto the garment.  Full instructions on the pack!  I'm sure Creations in Turnham Green Terrace will sell it.

Thank you. I’ve used wunder webb for years, should have thought there would be something similar . I’ve sent off for fabric glue but I like the idea of being able to move or remove them so will look at this. Many thanks

I learnt recently that using a glue stick was a good way to keep a patch in place while you were sewing it down.  I guess you are using a thimble?  I'm not sure I've got one any more but it used to be a staple of the sewing box.  Also one of those carpet needles which is semi-circular.

It’s all very difficult. I’ve got thimbles  but I’m still struggling. I’m sure I’m going to injure myself . I’m going out to try for the web stuff now

On second thoughts I think the needle I mentioned is actually an upholstery needle.Can you get that webbing stuff off afterwards?Another avenue may be to ask Mary at Ealing Repair if she has any ideas.  Ealing Repair is now on Facebook.Good luck with whatever you try.

I know a Mum with the same problem who took the lot to the local dry cleaners who also did repairs and had them machined on.  Problem solved!

You’ve obviously never tried to stitch a modern badge to a modern double thickness sash.  Anyway problem solved by wunder webb which was ridiculously quick and easy
