Can you tell us exactly how the gridlock is the result of the cycle lanes?

If there were no cars there would be no gridlock.If there were no cycle lanes, then you would still have occasions when traffic is grid locked.The cycle lanes might (*) increase the chances of there being gridlock, but it's the cars that are directly responsible for the grid lock.(*) And yes, I'm sure the cycle lanes do increase the likelihood of grid lock.

Looking at tom tom routefinder there is a high level of traffic all over the place. The delays in Richmond don't look too different from the reported delays in Chiswick. Plenty of slow moving traffic near various motorway junctions as well.

The cycle lanes have made traffic more and more difficult- the roads are tiny. Kings street have now closed three bus stops west bound-making the elderly walk a very long way to find a bus stop open.  I wonder during the winter how many cycles will use these lanes- especially during snow! ?

As a result of this thread for 5 minutes from 13.39 I stood on my Balcony which give a good view from Dukes Avenue to Heathfield Terrace junctions and as previously posted cars heading west are bumper to bumper. Number of cyclists using C9 heading west was 5 with none heading east.

I believe your report re the number of cyclists if that is what you counted during your 5 minute observation. I, however, on a 267 returning from Hammersmith yesterday, saw very good usage of the bike lane. This was in the direction of Chiswick Roundabout in particular but the other way also. One observation was of a family - two adults and two children all on bikes. This was at about 4.15p.m. and the bus was not held up although admittedly I've been on it when the traffic has been very slow moving - exact cause unknown but probably connected with turning out time.

I forgot to add that the 5 cyclists all stopped at the red cyclist traffic lights at the CHR/HT junction, so my thanks to those 5 cyclists.

There's no District or Piccadilly lines for planned maintenance so that can't help. No doubt people have taken to their cars and Ubers will be out in force. Of course it's also Pub in the Park. Take your pick. Just a normal Chiswick weekend really. Brentford FC are having a week off though.

I was driving west on the M4 yesterday morning and there were clearly problems beyond the Chiswick area.Gridlock across Chiswick is usually related to a problem on the A4/M4 which is why it is so surprising to see Hounslow concocting a scheme that redirects traffic onto that road and TfL apparently agreeing.It needs to be remembered that snafus like this have occurred in Chiswick for decades so they can't be attributed to the cycle lane. By the same token it must also be pointed out that the A4/M4 is only starting to get back to traffic levels seen pre-pandemic because of Heathrow and the jams we have experienced in Chiswick over the last year have been happening in what should have been a relatively benign traffic environment.

Once again we get the idiot cycle brigade blaming the increase in traffic on cars. Two years ago CHR was free flowing, today it is either gridlocked or slow moving, and this is because of, you guessed it, the blasted cycle lane! A third of CHR, most importantly, the bus lane, has been taken over by a cycle lane that is rarely used, and a complete and utter waste of space. The only thing it has helped with is congestion and pollution. If the majority of us care about the environment, then one of the best things we could do to help, would be to get rid this useless white elephant.

I think the point that needs to be made is that yes there were some days when Chiswick was gridlocked pre pandemic. It only took an accident in a few miles radius, in any direction,  to cause a problem. Now the gridlock is pretty much an every day occurrence. A floating bus stop that prevents traffic passing a stationery bus is obviously going to do that. With other nearby road closures we cannot begin to handle any traffic issues such as accidents without major major  problems. This is of course the plan. No one is surprised .The question is what do we do about it. When your Council are pleased with their handiwork you need to get rid of them.

Everything has been done along CHR to hold up motor traffic - reduced lanes, repositioned bus stops, and extended delays at reconfigured traffic lights - together with an attempt to disguise the fact by holding up eastbound traffic at the 'bus gate' before it's even allowed to enter CHR. I assume the idea is to make it all so tiresome and time consuming that people will give up using cars and vans and lorries. That's as maybe, but it seems obvious they'll all try other routes before that happens.
