A lot depends on whether you are fully vaccinated or not. If you are not fully vaccinated, then, since the UK is on France's amber list, France will not let you in without an essential reason. If you are fully vaccinated, then France does not require a test to travel or enter, nor do you have to self-isolate. However, you have to provide proof of vaccination status and fill in a ‘sworn statement’ (déclaration sur l’honneur). See https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirementsFor your return, France is on the UK's amber list. So, assuming that you are fully vaccinated (otherwise you wouldn't have been able to go without an esential reason), you need to take a test prior to travel back to the UK. This can be a lateral flow test or a PCR test and must be taken within the 3 days prior to travel. This means that you can take it in the UK prior to travel! However, it has to be one which provides proof, rather than a selfadministered test from your local pharmacy. You will also have take a Day 2 test on your return. Prior to your return journey, you will need to fill in a UK passenger locator form within 48 hours of travel. On this you will need to give details of your Day 2 test - so you will need to book this prior to filling in the passenger locator form. Being fully vaccinated, you do not need to self-isolate whilst waiting for the Day 2 result.
