Second flowering of a magnolia

My late husband planted a mauve magnolia bush in the garden a good ten years ago and it has flourished. This year it has produced a second flowering now, in late summer. Googling suggests that this is quite rare. Anybody else had this experience?

Are you in Park Road (south)?If not, then you can count another Magnolia tree as flowering twice so not so rare!!This is the first time I have seen this and have been here over ten years.

I have a tulip magnolia the same colour as yours and it always flowerstwice a year.

Ours double flowers every year - petals everywhere, but at least not as many as spring time :)

I once had a magnolia which often flowered twice. It once had a weak third flowering.

I thought  my Magnolia was having a senior moment. It has just decided to burst into flower again.  The forum lists several other people have the same phenomenon. So perhaps not so rare after all. My spring shrubs have done the same . In full bloom again and my roses seem to be going on forever. .

My thoughts are that it is possibly owing to the rain and heat. On the vegetable plot some veg is growing like wild fire. Runner and French beans especially, picked 4 times last week and still growing well plus great crop of onions.Unfortunately the weather has brought on a really bad bout of tomato blight meaning that not many if any outdoor grown toms have survived.At home, grape hyacinths are producing shoots again.A strange year indeed.

Yes the grape hyacinths have a few shoots they may just die back again.

A Christmas rose is flowering again...  It's confusing isn't it!

Just had to get up and look out of the window to check that the winter jasmine isn't in bloom.
