Hartington Road

Can anyone let me know when the traffic restrictions came in for Hartington Road?  I turned into it from the Great Chertsey Road on Sunday evening and have received a penalty charge from Hounslow this morning.  I didn't have any idea restrictions have come in, and would be grateful if somebody could enlighten me. Serves me right, I guess!

A very long time ago and there is signage you need a permit.

Last Sept. Letters only until Jan 2021, then fines. Two signs on the A316 as you approach the turning, 4 camera signs on the verge on either side as you turn into Hartington with a camera sing and "permits only". Then a large yellow sign  just after the Marina saying "Hartington Road, No through Route, permit holders only". Perhaps a sight test is in order?

You have my sympathy.  They’re may be quite a few warnings but you need to be looking for them. My friend who lived in West London for 40 years but not now,  and whose not on social media, did the same and said “what signs”. Miraculously she dodged  a fine.

Despite what some are saying here, these changes are extremely confusing and are clearly done to catch people out. I was caught out a few months ago turning right out of the Roko Health Club, before turning right again down Cavendish Road, a journey I had done many times before lockdown. The fact the restrictions come in just before the turn is a very sneaky way of catching people out - if they want to stop people using Hartington as a rat run, then this option should still be open, rather than forcing people to turn left and onto the already busy Great Chertsey Road. Although I was unsuccessful in appealing my ticket, a number of people have been - mainly due to the fact the signage is inadequate, and also partly obscured by the foliage either side of the road. This particular scheme should be overturned soon, as others already have been.

Not quite the same issue, but on the point of ossicle deliberate confusion. My CPZ runs 9.30-5.30. The next door one runs 9-5. Another a few streets away has two short periods of restrictions morning and afternoon. Another changes zone in the middle of the road. They are all the same Council. Seems a bit odd to me.

When you're driving a car, signs with more than one or two words, plus numbers, are not helpful because there are so many other elements around you which require your attention. The Hartington Road sign, for drivers coming over Chiswick Bridge, should simply have a standard, clear 'No Left Turn' symbol, and underneath, 'Except for Permit Holders'. The signs showing time restrictions for entry into Staveley Road are also unnecessarily complicated. A 'No Entry' sign with the times underneath would have been more suitable.But of course, as LBH are well aware, 'Complicated signage = more revenue'.

It’s super sad, we avoid the area now hence the businesses don’t get our trade anymore, far too confusing and we are locals so anyone from outside the area have no chance! I understand the businesses are suffering, not only having to cope with covid but crazy LTN’s as well. Just shocking behaviour from Hounslow Council but then we expect nothing less from them

I gather that 'No Entry' signs, while far more recognisable and widely obeyed, are closely rationed by transport authorities, particularly if they're going to have exemptions attached. Hence the use of its poor relation, the low flying motorbike 'No Motor Vehicles' sign, the significance of which few people seem to recognise. It's not helped in Hartington Road by having the restriction some distance along and offering no alternative route to avoid it, with the road ahead remaining invitingly open to allow 'permit holders' to drive through. As others suggested, putting the sign at the end of Hartington Road would simplify the arrangement but would restrict access to the marina and the sports ground which the present scheme presumably wants to avoid. Can't beat a physical barrier for clarity and effectiveness.

On balance, with all of the recent negative comments, was it a bad idea to inflict this road changes on everyone.  If traffic is allowed In one direction what exactly is the purpose. If it’s purely to reduce traffic, why do these streets/residents deserve it? Did they buy houses knowing the situation. A bit like buying next to a pub and complaining about noise. Finally the idea that no entry signs are rationed can’t be right can it? However, it is then change that before increasing the number of no go roads being foisted upon us .

It’s a revenue generating exercise with covid expect more schemes to generate cash for councils! Just put up council tax and let people enjoy their local area….

Or have a Govt which allows Council Taxes to be put up enough to pay for all the services they have to perform including Social Care which no Govt despite promises seems to be able to face dealing with.

The government has allowed councils which provide social care to adults to increase their share of Council Tax. This additional Council Tax charge is called the adult social care precept.This started in 2016 and it is a government requirement that this precept is shown as a separate line on the bill with an amount that is the total for this additional precept.
