Good Luck to Brentford FC tonight

Really excited to have Premier League football within earshot of my house.I'd love to see Brentford do well as they epitomise so much of what is good about the sport. It would be great for the area if they became an established Premier League team. Quietly fancy them to get a result tonight.

Great for the area? Why?

Yes..one wishes Brentford FC well..and the Club and it's officials must be very excited at this evening's event.However..I hope chaos doesn't reign. Crowd control at Gunnersbury Station, hundreds of pedestrians crossing Chiswick Roundabout, inadequate car parking are just a few of the areas of concern. Transport stewards are already outside Gunnersbury Station and at the north end of Lionel Road South. There's also a helicopter hovering around at this moment.Fingers crossed for tonight!

I would have thought the benefits would be self-evident but perhaps the most important one is that Brentford is going to become known to hundreds of millions of people across the globe for the first time. The spin off gains from this are hard to predict but they are likely to be significant.Hard pressed pubs and restaurants are going to see a boom in trade on match days. Chiswick's riverside pubs are likely to be particularly popular just as the ones near Fulham's ground were when they were in the top division.Local tourism is also likely to pick up. A significant number of tickets for any premier league match are bought by tourists and they may not just be around for the afternoon or evening of the game.Fewer local children will glory hunt with some northern team and support a side they can walk to see.As for match day chaos, there probably will be some tonight as many people arriving will be unfamiliar with the ground and the authorities are still in the process of working out the best way to manage the crowds. It won't take long for them to learn how to do this minimising any short term disruption.

According to this alarming map,the stadium will have its own beach in the not so distant future...https://tinyurl.com/y2jshsj7COASTAL RISK SCREENING TOOLLAND PROJECTED TO BE BELOW ANNUAL FLOOD LEVEL IN 2030www.climatecentral.org

Well you think wrong then don't you?Just because you're obsessed with them everyone in the area has think seeing loads of fans and extra cars in the area is a good thing!

Basil Finnis ● 1899d

It could be 3-0..

Well done, Brentford!

Brentford are top of the Premier League!

Richard Jennings ● 1899d

And Arsenal are bottom! Looks like they are in a relegation dog fight with Wolves and Watford.Premier league football on Chiswick's doorstep and the place isn't a steaming heap of rubble the following morning - who would have predicted that? There didn't even seem to be much of an issue with traffic.Brentford showed they deserved to be in the Premier League with their display and Brentford fans showed they deserved to be there with their standing ovation for Bukayo Saka.

I haven't the slightest interest in football, but I was very pleased to hear of Brentford's victory last night. I hope they go on to further success.

Me too, my Dad would have been so pleased.

Exactly Colin & Janice.Like you I have no interest in football but I'm happy for people in Chiswick who do and now have a premier league ground on their doorstep. Why do other people just see the negatives?

I loved the quirky stadium architecture squeezed into a derelict triangle of land; I loved the arousing singing of the pre-match song, plagiarised from Paul McCartney; I loved the good natured applause given to Bukayo Saka when entering the field of play, and I admired the Bees smart football throughout the game. An unforgettable night.Chastened Gooner

Being a season ticket holder at Brentford, I was there last night. A fantastic well deserved result and an amazing atmosphere.Although not many drive to Lionel Rd, BFC arranged parking facilities with various organisations in the area long before the season started so hopefully there won't be problems for local residents.

Does help if the opponents were missing their two international forwards

Has the Brentford bubble burst? No longer top of the league and it could be they have to settle for a Europa League place.
