Printer repair

Can anyone recommend someone local to repair a canon printer? thanks

Hi Rob, is this an Ink Jet printer or Laser? What is the problem?

There’s usually little value in repair, you just buy a new one unless it’s a proper office time device.

Hi. It's a Canon pixma ts9550 with error code 5050. Not a fix yourself thing apparently.

I've just done precisely what Craig recommends. A couple of weeks ago, my Canon Pixma started giving me problems, and having looked around, I decided that a repair would cost as much as, if not more than, buying a new one. So I'm now the proud owner of a new HP Envy6000 printer, and the Canon has gone to the printers' recycling  graveyard.

Yep, it's rather what i feared. Repairs from the 'approved' company will end up at 2/3 of price of a new one. Was just hoping someone local was able to have a bit of a go at it - as it isn't an especially cheap or old one.  Annoying that there are no details, that i can find, as to what the error actually is - a major bit of hardware or just some software nonsense. I feel rather disinclined to buy another canon of course! Except ive a load of ink for it. doh.

I assume you have seen the Canon advice? "CausePrinter error has occurred.What to DoTurn off printer and unplug itPlug in the printer again and turn it back onIf this does not solve the problem,  service is required"Trouble is that services can cost. I suggest you ring Canon and find out the cost. Or there is a company (about whom I know nothing!) that will do it https://www.diamondsource.co.uk/canon-printer-repairs-in-west-london/ Also  research the cost of new ones so you can judge whether it is worth repairing. If not then put it on Freecycle or ebay for parts.

Yup sadly with an ink jet repairs are seldom cost effective. When buying a new printer take care on the price, yield, and availability of cartridges before you buy. In my experience Brother always seem the best from this respect

I don't recommend the cheaper HP ones. I thought the first one not pulling the paper through - so I had to feed it single sheets at at time and push them hard down before it realised there was paper there - was just a flaw on that machine but the next one has exactly the same problem - tells me there is no paper in the tray when there is.  And other people have the same problem.  I might try Brother from the recommendation on here - thank you - nothing could be worse than the cheap HP ones.

Spoke to canon. They said it needs to go to repair centre. They quoted 100+vat. So new one (not canon) it shall be.

I am very happy with my Epson all in one inkjet. If you are a mac user, Epson have worked with macs for years (I am NOT a mac user) For plain text only I have a reliable Samsung mono laser.
