Neighbours in the village put in an air source heating system about 7 years ago and at £6,000 found the system was not flexible and their not very big house was constantly cold. They topped it up with 2 wood burning stoves.Last year they upgraded to a newer system at £7,000. It was better but in the coldest weather last winter it needed to be supplemented. No space for a ground source heat pump. I am a bit sceptical because the area is largely chalk overlaid with sand and a high water table with lots of springs and streams. Area in question, north side of Salisbury Plain.
