Energy supplier recommendations

Hi there — NPower have shunted me over to E-On Next and my gas and electricity bills seem to have quadrupled. Can anybody recommend a good energy supplier who doesn't charge like a wounded rhino? Many thanks! CB x

https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/energy-companies/article/energy-companies/which-energy-survey-results-ajqM43e6ycY8It isn't just the cost of the energy as the cost in time spent trying to deal with some providers can also be exorbitant.  As I understand it NPower have been taken over by Eon.  There are now an awful lot of energy companies compared to in the past!  Energy is often cheaper if you have a smart meter.

I live in a small flat, 3 rooms out of 5 including the bathroom, are heated via gas central heating although not used since April and cooking is, unfortunately, on electric; I'm with Octopus Energy. Received my monthly statement this morning for both fuels, under £35. I've been with them for over 2 years now. Very happy to date with them.

Just changed from Octopus to Goto Energy which came out a smidgen cheaper this time around. Both claim to be green energy suppliers (an oxymoron?).

What is a smidgen cheaper ken ?Octopus say the following for meOctopus 24M Fixed You save £2.15 per year The opp is moving from E-On Next who will save me £10.76 per year which is £8 cheaper than Octopus. Im confused.com and unless i kick everyone out and live in the kitchen

Ive said this before on this site, and correct me if Im wrong. The comparison sites ask you for your present supplier and your tariff, but ignore that and make the comparison with your supplier's Standard Tariff, which is always high. So theyll come up with a deal that saves you eg 150 quid a year. But when you dig down into the cost per kWh you can find your existing tariff is actually cheaper. Always look at price per kWh not what they say you can save.

I was coming off an Octopus fixed tariff onto its variable one. They actually wrote to me suggesting I shopped around to see if I could do better, and gave some comparison site links to make it easier!I found the Goto 18 month fixed was a few fractions of a penny cheaper per KwH compared with Octopus's fixed offer.It's a while since I stayed with one utilities supplier for long - they all seem to practise tease then squeeze.One thing to be aware of - your last years consumption reflects lockdown. You will have spent longer at home, cooked more meals, kept the house warm longer etc. Therefore this year's consumption might naturally be lower, thus cheaper.
