Steam Trains - Grove Park

Where can I find the timetable for steam trains coming through Grove Park? Sure I heard one today but thought they were Tuesdays only.

Looks like Mayflower is back for the Royal Windsor Express trips-  but not starting until 21st. It might be that Mayflower was coming back down today in preparation. See Steam Dreams website

Cheers Iris - I heard a whistle that sounded like a train. Stood on the bridge at night a good while back when one came through, trying to take photos - an awesome experience! Photos were rubbish, so there’s my challenge.

I happened to be waiting for my train at Chiswick Station one morning last month when a steam loco passed through heading east and pulling a full set of Pullman carriages. There didn't seem to be anyone on board. Unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a photo.I then read in the "Chiswick Calendar" that Steam Dreams were running trains through Chiswick every Tuesday until the end of August at around 1.45 and 6.45 pm. I went along on the first Tuesday  and waited. And waited. And waited. I finally gave up and went home. I couldn't make an awful lot of sense of Steam Dreams brochure and as yet I haven't tried again. Let us know if you have any luck!

https://www.railwaytouring.netMy brothers and I took a trip with this company to Weymouth hauled by an A4 Pacific (like Mallard) a few summers ago which passed through West London and South Acton I think.You may be able to work back from their schedule.Better still, take a trip. I recorded some wonderful pictures and sounds.

Adrian I like your pics. Agreed Adrian, trainspotting never leaves you particularly the steam locos. Went lots of places, Crewe, Birmingham (Snow Hill), Leeds, Grantham. When the Blue Deltic started we knew the end of steam was nigh. I saw the Flying Scotsman on its way through Grove Park some weeks ago, the loco minus its tender, and being pulled by a diesel loco. The railways hold an eternal fascination, long may it continue.

We went around Scotland a couple of years ago on the Scotsman. It was quite extraordinary to see train nerds whereever they could get on the track to see it, with the full kit of cameras and sounds systems. They were even in fields where it was difficult to see how they had got access. In fact it was such a problem ,that Network Rail was considering stopping the Scotsman completely because the nerds not only refused to get off the track but were violent and abusive as well. Steam Dreams did not put the timings on their website because of this but there seemed to be a train nerds website where they had somehow got the information (some suspicion that an employee had leaked the details)Marvellous loco

Iris, I take it you mean the Flying Scotsman which, being a famous British locomotive it is hardly surprising that it created such a stir from "nerds" and no doubt ordinary folk alike.

I missed out on steam nostalgia because I lived in the Southern Region where we had passenger electrics from well before my arrival in a maternity hospital. The only steam engines I saw at all frequently were distinctly unglamorous goods trains and a few soon-to-be-Beechinged branch lines.But I moved to London at about the same time as B747s started flying into Heathrow, and my bedroom in a shared flat in Ealing looked towards the flight path. The 747 amazed me, and now I feel nostalgic that I won't see many more of them dropping sedately towards 27R.
