MichaelI regularly drive to Kew Retail Park to do a big shop at M&S for food and clothing, I'll also shop at Next, TK Max and Boots, thus able to get everything I need in a short car journey out and back.Of course I could walk to M&S Chiswick and buy clothes etc online which having tried them on may involve going through the hassle of returning them, however that would involve even more use of motorised vehicles and quite a few transport journeys - tell me what's your solution for that ? At every step you appear to want to stop people from having a choice of how and where they shop, why is that ?As for your comment assuming that only one person in a multi occupied car will spend money - have you never heard of 'impulse buying' ?As for your last paragraph, you really haven't thought that through...
