E-scooter Trial To Begin in Local Borough

"E-scooters will be restricted to cycle lanes and roads as it is illegal in the UK to ride them on footpaths."And: "Londoners will be encouraged to only use rental e-scooters as privately owned e-scooters remain banned on public roads". This area of the law is extremely confused. Basically these small-wheeled vehicles are unstable and easily stopped by pebbles on the highway or a pavement - very dangerous if you are travelling fast.These should be restricted to private land where the landowner takes responsibility for their use.

The legal to use rental ones appear to have bigger wheels than a lot of the illegal ones that we have seen being used.

Perhaps they can fit them with floats and use them on the river. After all, the RNLI are around to help if they get into difficulties. ;-)

Without any apparent enforcement, the distinction between 'legal' rental scooters and 'illegal' private scooters will be non-existent.

I am not too sure the take up will be that great.At first maybe, but they are tricky to ride, they have to be parked in designated locations, you can't travel out of a zone, you have pay, there is no load carrying ability and I think you need insurance.Why bother, just use a bicycle.

Governments and local authorities pay lip-service to disability legislation.
