Surge testing Hounslow

Hounslow residents being urged to get tested due to rise in indian variant cases in Borough. Where do we get tested. I am in Grove Park

I have a feeling that this won't be carried out borough-wide, more likely in specific "hot spots". Presumably more details will emerge soon.

In fact this just appeared on the Nextdoor app."IMPORTANT: COVID-19 information for Hounslow. Surge testing will be taking place in Hounslow following confirmed cases of the COVID-19 variant first identified in India. There will be more vaccines available for those who have already been invited to book, and second doses will be brought forward.Everyone who lives, studies or works in Hounslow should take a test as soon as you are invited. Please accept the vaccine as soon as you are offered it to make sure you are protected."So it looks as if we need to wait for an invitation rather than just rolling up.I presume for example that people who have received two vaccinations won't be at the top of the list.

The Nextdoor post was from the Mayor of London, but I can't see anything about surge testing on Hounslow's site apart from the generic advice to get tested twice a week.The sites that offer Rapid Lateral Flow Device Tests are at Hounslow House and at Isleworth, Bedfont and Heston libraries. For anyone in Chiswick, it's probably easier to get a pack of Rapid LFD Tests and do the test yourself.  Grove Park residents should be able to collect a free pack of 7 tests from the pharmacy at 9 Grove Park Road.  For other local sources, see https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/

However, when considering the new Indian variant the advice is that the PCR test is used as it allows for serotyping. As with most services supplied to its residents, Hounslow makes little provision for the east of the borough. They have no interest in Chiswick other than as a cash cow. Expecting people to travel long distances is not advisable when they want to stop the spread of the Indian variant. Perhaps for once they will provide services nearer than Iselworth Library. Hardly accessible.

Received email from Hounslow Council about half an hour ago. 'The Secretary of State announced yesterday, Wednesday 19 May, that surge testing and increased vaccination will be taking place in the London Borough of Hounslow. While this is not an immediate cause for serious concern, equally it is not a time for complacency. We all need you to step up for Hounslow!Over the coming weeks, the Borough will be taking a series of measures to ensure that both COVID-19 testing and vaccinations across Hounslow are as accessible as possible to all residents, that processes are simple and easy for everyone, and that information is readily available in community languages.We are currently finalising the details of where you will be able to access vaccinations through pop-up clinics and free rapid testing at Mobile Testing Units and we will publish these widely soon.'Sounds like more information will be forthcoming soon.

ChrisI don't think it will either, but as long as the powers that be let people in from countries who are struggling to maintain there out breaks.Surprised to hear from a councilor from Bolton on the news this morning, saying that they haven't got fixed vaccination centres in the area, they are relying on these movable pop up centres. This government, seems to be treating the north of England as a third world country and not giving them the full services that we have been very fortunate to have.The Areas around the airport seem to be getting worse because of effected people being let in.  A lot of the Airport work force come from Hounslow, Shouthall and Hillingdon, it only take one person to fly in with the variant and off it goes again.Got to be all down to money and sod the population.
