Hartington Road revenue camera

Hi All Just in case anyone else gets incorrect camera bills through the post from those lovely people at Hounslow Council...I recently posted that we had received 2 PCNs in the last week on my wife's vehicle for driving up Hartington Road despite the fact I had registered both our vehicles for exemption in October 2020 and received email notification from LBH to confirm this. After spending valuable time contesting both PCNs with LBH/Serco/LTN on all their people-free channels, I received confirmation today from LBH apologising that the vehicle had not been added to the exemption list but this had now been done. My wife uses Hartington Road on a near daily basis so why no other PCNs had been received prior to these two remains a mystery but hopefully this issue is now solved.

Jim.  Apologies for being slightly off topic.Has anyone got an explanation for the two warning signs situated on the A316 from Richmond, about 20 to 30 metres before the left turn into Hartington Road which warn motorists of restrictions 320 yards ahead ?  I assume they mean Hartington Road. Or is it a ploy to raise even more revenue through fines?

You can actually see one of the restricted entry boards on Google Maps. On the left side between Chiswick Bridge and Hartington Road.    "320 yards except permit holders".

A light has just come on.It could mean "No cars or motorbikes for the next 320 yards when you turn left".  Or it could mean, as it probably does, "No cars or motorbikes after you have travelled 320 yards into Hartington Road".  Or it could be some genius in the council has requested siting the sign 300 yards before it should be.  I wonder what people unfamiliar with the problems in the area would think. My initial reaction was don't turn into Hartington Road.

Your initial reaction is correct! Only residents with the relevant permit are allowed to drive into Hartington Road from the A316 at Chiswick Bridge. You may do so however in order to gain access to Roko health club.Beyond that point there is a "flying motorbike" sign indicating that no (unregistered) vehicles are allowed. So where exactly does the 320 yards have its effect?  When you enter HR for the NEXT 320 yards?  When you are 320 yards along HR? Perhaps they should have another sign  -  "mind readers only".

Derek, I share your despair! Somewhere on this forum, or maybe another one, somebody went to the trouble of measuring the 320 yards from the sign. As I recall they came to the conclusion that the measurement referred to the distance to the location of the no motor vehicles "flying motorcycle". This is the sign with legal significance - the large yellow and black things on the A316 were I think put there as advisories  because people complained about the lack of advance warning of the restriction. There has been much discussion as to what the wording should say, but nothing has changed.

The signs on A316 relate to the junction with Hartington Road and the 320 yards should be the distance from the junction to the No Motor Vehicles (NMV) signs.  There are also warning signs on Hartington Road at 300 and 150 yds from the NMV signs.  I think it was a post on NextDoor that suggested that some of the distances were inaccurate.I know of at least 9 PCNs for which appeals to Hounslow have been pending for several weeks.

Bob Cratchitt Indeed. How did they come to make such a mess of Grove Park - and more to the point, what can be done to get a system that works? The Burlington diversion is dangerous. Will it take a serious accident for them to reconsider.

Can we be hopeful it will be scrapped now. I heard there was no mention of Staveley in the changes. Maybe in time.

Richard.I didn't dare venture into HR, a route I have used very often in the past. I realised what the 320 yards meant but in my opinion it doesn't excuse the idiotic signing on the A316.

"How did they come to make such a mess of Grove Park - and more to the point, what can be done to get a system that works"The mess in Grove Park is because pre-covid many of us collaborated with the initial investigatory phase of the South Chiswick Liveable Neighbourhood scheme (a thinly disguised LTN). This scheme died when TfL went bankrupt but, and here's the rub, Hounslow Traffic Officers used the information collected to devise schemes brought in and funded under the Streetspace Programme.What can be done now? Email every member of the Hounslow Cabinet and traffic@hounslow.gov.uk and let them know what you think.There are better schemes and we will keep the pressure on Hounslow Council to do a proper public consultation i.e. consider all the options. But we need you help.
