In Hounslow, road name signs are a Hounslow Highways responsibility. I suggest you raise an enquiry at fms.hounslowhighways.org using the category "Signs & Street Name plates".On the Glebe Estate, we had a number of old signs fixed to houses which were faded, and wanted them repainted. The advice from Hounslow Council was that they were no longer council property, having been replaced by new signs on posts erected by Hounslow Highways. With permission from the house owners, we (Glebe Estate Residents' Association) therefore commissioned a painter to repaint the old signs. I guess that option is available to the house owner with the faded sign in your road, though the position might be different if you're in a conservation area.
