Shambles! Re:Walk-in vaccinations at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre

Following Hounslow's announcement for dropin vaccines for 18+ from 5.30pm. My daughter queued from 5pm to 8.50pm for a vaccine outside the Fountain Leisure Centre, she was given the number 55 and told she would get a vaccine. At 8.50pm she, along with others, was told the vaccines had run out. They were then promised an appointment for tomorrow but the booking service was found to be closed. Nobody took the names of any of the young people waiting patiently all evening for NO vaccine, they were told to come back tomorrow afternoon, but who are they even supposed to talk to as they are not in the eligible category? This is appalling treatment, the pilot system need to be fixed. This will hardly encourage the young to get vaccinated.

I’m sure that it was very frustrating for your daughter but it was clear that it was a ‘pilot’ and that no vaccination was guaranteed. They are not going to use vaccines that are for people with appointments tomorrow. Whilst it’s not great, it’s not appalling. People are doing their best and to be honest I can’t think of any young people I know of who would put off having a vaccine in the future because of what happened to your daughter tonight.

As per LBH's e-mail sent yesterday - "Queueing will not guarantee a vaccine, but teams on the doors will be able to advise at 5.30pm if there is availability that day. If there is availability, please join the queue between 5.30 and 6.30pm. Last admittance will be at 7.20pm each day."Sounds like nobody told the staff !

My oldest son had an appointment for his first jab yesterday evening at The Fountain. When he got there - there was a huge queue which he got on the end of. He 'phoned me to ask how long we'd waited - although we went to another location for ours, and I told him about the walk in offer, needless to say he was in the wrong place. However, there were no signs advising people where to go outside. Once again some decent communication is the key!

Just went and it's pre bookings only. After 5.30pm if they have spare they'll dish them out.

Whilst I understand how frustrating it was for your daughter, the vaccine roll out is a fantastic success, the young people I know will definitely get vaccinated when their time comes. Let’s not knock the incredible achievement the UK has achieved, a pilot scheme is just that and clearly it needs better communication which I am sure will happen.

Totally agree with you Jayne. They are doing a fantastic job at the Fountain and elsewhere in the Borough.
