Hogarth Flyover: should we be worried?

Traffic is now regularly backing up on the single lane Hogarth Flyover, as traffic backs down Chiswick Lane.  Hogarth Flyover was and is a temporary structure.  Is it at risk?

On rare occasion the police pull over and issue fines to the drivers of vehicles that breach the weight limit.If there was an ANPR camera installed  it would raise a fortune and more to the point help to preserve the structure.I don't understand why there isn't one.

'If there was an ANPR camera installed  it would raise a fortune and more to the point help to preserve the structure.'We've already used up our quota of ANPR cameras protecting fragile structures like Hartington Road and Strand-on-the-Green.

Given how close to the river it is, wouldn't an underpass be at risk of regular flooding ?

I wonder what was planned to be the permanent structure or was the temporary label just a red herring to pacify critics .

My dad was one of the people who built it.  He has just told me the permanent solution was supposed to be a tunnel but they were happy with the bridge so left it.

From discussion with traffic engineers, seems the queues on the Hogarth Flyover are a likely result of the signal timings and changes in junction design at Chiswick Lane with the Chiswick High Rd.  It would be good to see the traffic modelling from TfL and LBH on this.  What thought did they give to the risk to the Hogarth Flyover?

It can take 10 minutes to get from Cranbrook Road to CHR most days. The traffic is always backed up. Another contributing factor is the semi bike lane at the CHR/Lane intersection adjacent to the loading bay wiping out the left hand lane for those turning west - I, for one, ignore it doing my bit to keep traffic moving and reduce pollution. I'm virtuous that way. You also have people go through the light, turn east or west then stop again at the signals on CHR despite that signal not being for them. Happens daily. You'll also get people turning west into the bike lane and then back up into the intersection. My personal favorite.

When you see some of what happens on the roads and what some drivers try to drive over the Hogarth Flyover you can see how we should be worried about more than just the flyover itself.

I agree with both of Adrian's posts!  Prevention is better than cure and the prevention technique is obviously not good enough any more.  I leave you to consider the reasons.
